Hi all,
I'm looking to purchase a Tohatsu 2 stroke and would like to know if anyone can recommend a dealer on the Sunshine Coast. While cost is important I also am aware that good reliable honest service can be priceless. What are people's experiences regarding purchasing and then having their Tohatsu's serviced regarding costs etc.
thanks Knackers

g'day mate, i have not dealt alot with port o call but just recently bought a boat with a near new tohatsu 70hp 2 stroke. To keep the warranty in tact it needed a 50 hour service. The guys at port o call were very helpful and talkative blokes.

What size engine are you chasing>? i am toying with the idea of offloading my 70 2 stroke to buy a 4 stroke. Let me know if this size would interest you. It was bought new in december last year from port o call.

This warranty threat thing gets up my nose...I believe that is wrong and not legally correct. You cannot make warranty conditional like that on getting some particular service...anyone across the exact legal position..?
I was really p****d off when a Sunshine Coast Mercury dealer told me when I asked seriously about an Opti 90 that the 5 year warranty would be void if I didnt get the annual $560 service every year including a new water pump kit. I just crossed Optimax off my shortlist immediately....and at the time early this year I was a happy Mercury owner so I wasnt anti black in any way...

It must be noted here that i bought the motor second hand. In the warranty book there is a transfer of warranty slip between owners. This slip requires an authorised dealer to sign off on the condition of the engine. There for a 150 buck service was required to check everything was as it should be. Fair enough i thought.

I've only been to port o call boating once when I first started boat shopping. I was extremely impressed by their willingness to provide advice and information fully knowing that I wouldn't be likely buying a boat from them... Guess who I'll be going to for maintenance? ;)

Matt.

Certain brands of outboard have a less than a rolled gold reputation for paying out on warranty claims...keep that in mind, hint hint.
