G'day,
I was down at Giru last weekend fishing the lower Haughton River.
Was wondering if anyone ever fishes the freshwater side of it (above the weir)?
Is there any public access to the stretch of water from Giru down to where the Bruce Highway crosses the river where you could a drop tinny in?
Thanks,
Roo.

About 2 km. due south of the town there is a dirt road down to the river. You might try talking to the store keeper in town he is a wealth of knowledge on the local area.
Good luck.

Plenty of Catfish eh? I was hoping that bit of water might hold the odd barra or two.
I suppose then I'll be kept busy with them instead. They seem to have a nasty habit of being able to find their way onto lures meant for bigger and better things.
Cheers,
Roo.

Roo,
Apparently the weir is full of barra and fishes alright.
Me and my mate are planning on going down there soon.
Cheers, Andrew

the weir is always full of barra, when its not in flood there is only very few small ones in there, but when the river has a flood is washes all the barras down to the weir and they are always smashing lures, my best one there so far was an 80cm barra but ive seen poeple catch one over a metre long. they are there, you just have to wait for it to flood then go back down again
