I have a 225 Suzuki on a Fisher 6.8 centre cab and get about 1.3 -1.4 klm to the litre on big trips in good conditions and driving it at around 4000 - 4500 revs. Now I would have thought this pretty normal until a friend came with me on a trip he has a 6.5m Assassin cuddy cab with the same motor as mine but he has the 21.5 inch prop where I have the 20inch prop. He averaged 1.7 Klm / L and was with us all the way. He does have a bumpier ride but this is a big difference in fuel. I used 300L for the trip he only used 220L.

My question is what are other people getting out of their 225's with similar sized boats, I'd like to hear from all brands not just Suzuki.

Mate I have a 225hp Zuke with a 20" prop on a Seaswirl 2300 walkaround am getting similar figures to you. I previously had the same engine and prop on a Southwind SF20 and got closer to 1.8km p/l. The Seaswirl is probably 800kgs or so heavier than the SF20.

What WOT RPM is your mate getting with the Assasin?

You need to get those rpm's down to around 3800 to get the best economy. Get Col to fit an EP20 interface to the zuke if you have a Lowrance sounder/GPS and you will see the difference in what the Zuke will use at those RPM levels and see the best Nm/l you will get for that hull/motor combo.

If you want the best economy youre normal cruise speed will have to come down unless you change prop pitch.

Cheers

Greg

You mentioned he had a bumpier ride. Do you have more deadrise? If so, a boat with less deadrise needs less effort to get it up & running & will, in theory, be able to swing a bigger prop.
The deeper the V, the more ponies you need.

225 Yammy on a 6.7 m Coraline centre cab, around 1.2- 1.3 kpl. 18" pitch prop.(different gear ratio to the Suz.)

I get 1.8km/ltr in calm conditions and 1.5km/lt when its rough...
5.9 Seafarer, 250 E-tec, 21" prop....

Hopefull I should get better figures next time I'm out.. My motor is sitting to low, (Cav plate level with the keel line).... I have had a plate made up to lift the motor, it should be fitted in the next week or 2

Just did a big trip in August 296klm for 230litres. My boat with fuel and standard gear on the trailer is 2700kgs which is 2t in the water8-) .. for this trip we had 3 guys + 100kg ice + food esky, beer, cooking gear and sleeping stuff etc :) for 3 days so I recon she was heavy. I run a 225 Honda with a 16 pitch prop. We had both good and adverse conditions.

Hi guys I have a 650 sea legend with a 220 hp mercruiser4.3mpi spinning a 19" blackmax prop , getting at a 3300rpm criuse of 45klh 1.5 l/h with the clears on. Have just had the prop repaired (note to self Dont take a big boat to harrys hut on a droping tide) and cupped will see what diferance it made this weekend

Thanks for the responses guys it seems we are doing about the same except for my mate.

Leezor he is getting about 6100 revs and 84klm/hr at WOT.

Greg I would bring my cruise speed down but we can't have a dirty WA plate boat beating a good QLD made Fisher now can we;) I've still got him covered in the rough water. (where it counts)

Peter he does have a shallower dead rise and is a bit lighter but I was surprised at the amount of difference. I will have to weigh my rig and see just how much lighter he is.

Scrubba,
The DR difference makes for a lot of difference at the flow meter. And as you have a Fisher I would imagine you are running tabs. I apply my QLs & I can watch the RPMs drop. My 175 seems to return about 1.5 to 1.7 km to the liter (no flow meter) & my Fisher is pretty heavy with 300L & a full cab. My prop is 19" & I rev out to 6200 easily. I think you are not far off the money at that rate of consumption.

Hi Peter
I am running QL Tabs and they do make a bit of difference to the fuel but I'd still keep them.
My rig would also be pretty heavy 350L of fuel 90L of fresh water up the front for showers on long trips + the hard top. My mate only has 250L of fuel and no hard top so the difference in weight might surprise me. I only just rev out to 6000 so there is no way i could swing the bigger prop. I have no flow metre either I just work it out over the whole trip, KLM's traveled to litres used. Last trip was 384 Klm and 300L admittedly last 10klm of this was at close to WOT as it was running back to Tincan bay.

Nice looking rig by the way Pete as with all Fishers. Did you go for a clear finish on her or is it silver paint?

Neither. Bare arse alloy sanded by the builder. No upkeep apart from a hose down.

I have a mate with a 685CC outsider, running a 250 suke, 20" prop. I did 3 days in it in different conditions some quite rough and others quite good, running between 3800 and 4800 revs and doing about 160 klms per day, over the 3 days we averaged 1.2, 1.4 and 1.3 klm p/l which is what i expected and I figure the CC will be a little heavier than the fisher although not too much

cheers

HEY .... I'm getting similar numbers out of my 130YAM 2banger !!!

Only thing is mine is litres per km :-[ :-[ :-[

Then again, she cost about half of a 4banger, is ultra reliable & cheap as chips to service ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D .

I only recently put the 4 stroke on before that I had a 225 yammy 2 stroke and was getting on average between 700 m and 800 m to the litre so I know how you feel. It is alot to change over but the good thing is the more you go fishing the more you save (at least that's what I tell the wife).
