I was talking to a mate on the weekend about fuel consumption (he runs a 27 footer) and thereon to the biggish trailer boats (Reef Runner etc) for heading out off Portland Vic for snapper and tuna.... We both really like the Southwind 655 and Haines 585sf but wonder if the Haines will be disadvantaged by a little less length?

From what I have read, and only read because I have not been in either, they are comparible offshore boats?

You guys know much more that me, what do you think? Thanks

Hey mate, i would have to say the southwind would perform better due to size and weight as they are a heavy boat, i personally cant comment on the haines but i know they are a great handling boat, we used to have a southwind sf640 and it road briliantly in rouph seas., me personally would choose the southwind but i know many will disagree with me.

cheers tassie JR

Haines is a great boat and for its size, probably right up there. However there is a lot to be said for waterline length and weight and that is where the Southwind will have its advantage...particularly in the rough.
