Hi guys we are seriorsly looking at moving to Townsville when wife has finished her teaching degree ,we went for a look see not long ago.My question is what ramps are around the bushland beach area that would suit launching a 6.5m glass boat ? The ramp at bushland beach looked doable but got my doubts about the creek
Thanks

I think you might mean Bushland Beach. I don't know anyone who launches larger boats there. It's a pretty popular smal boat creek. It can be a real headache on some weekends. Larger boats are normally launched at the Coastguard ramp near the Casino.
I'm a teacher and I've lived here all my life. Love it!!

Been up here 7 years now and loving every minute of it.

I wouldn't go launghing a big glass boat on the Bushy Beach ramp, the ramp is ok, but unless you know the creek really well, you'll have nothing but drama's. For a boat like yours, a high tide launch would be the only option, and even then you have to be careful, there's plenty of submerged stups and logs that will do damage.

Most people use the Coastguard ramp in the city, pretty basic facilities, but theres 2 4 lane ramps and a pontoon, this ramp gets pretty shallow at low tide though. Here you will need to pay attention to the tides and I'd be launghing your boat with nothing less than 1m of water, the low during the spring tides, almost has the bottom of the ramp exposed, and though launching would be ok with a deep drop off at the end, it will cause endless headaches when it comes to retreiving.

A lot of larger boats also use the National Park Boat ramp on the Ross River, its a deeper ramp but there is less parking, so you'll need to be in early or you will miss out. But on weekends and public holidays, the parking inspectora ar pretty leinient on boaties, especially if there are just cars parked in the trailer parking areas. I've had to park on the footpath several times because of the other inconsiderate dolts and never been done....touch wood.

The other place I go with my glass boat is Lucinda only 100k down the road and easy access to the reef and islands

I don't know which would be more difficult to get out of at low tide in a 6.5m glass boat, Lucinda or the Bohle River? If you want to go up the Hinchinbrook area and are worried about boat ramps use the Port Hinchinbrook marina.

Kind regards... david
