Hi Everyone,
I have a 5m fibreglass boat (mid 80's model). I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to tell if there are problems with the transom, such as damage or rot etc. I undestand that repairs are $2k upwards.
Thank you

a couple of very simple checks are, get the handle of a screw driver or a small hammer and tap on the outside, if it is solid, there is a distinct "tap" if soft there is a dull "thunck" also have the Motor tilted up and give the gearbox a bit of a push downwards, you will see it flex into the transom if it is rotten, these are not the only tests, or the be all to end all, but they can be done easy in a couple of minutes.

You can also remove the bungs housing and check out the timber inside if it's wet and crumbly you got the rot.
