I know there is another thread going about the introduction of the 406 EPIRB in Qld (http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php?t=131086&page=4), however I have since been advised that a PLB - Personal Locating Beacon is not an alternative to using an EPIRB on a vessel for marine purpose. The govt legislation is for an EPIRB covered by the AU/NZ standard 4208.1 only, whereas a PLB is under AU/NZ standard 4208.2.

My understanding is that an EPIRB is fixed to vessel via a fixed mounting bracket, whereas a PLB is by nature, portable.... :o

In your thread replies, just remember, I'm only a messenger, not the law maker!!! :(

1. That has always been the case

2. The primary differences are the floating capability, hence signal quality and battery life
