After information or recommendations on new or near new unit.
Well about time I upgraded boat, currently have a 3.7m Quintrex Bass Buster.
Interested in 4m tinnie type v punt due to low weight etc.
Types looked at included Quintrex Explorer 395 Trophy, Quintrex Hornet 4M Trophy and Stacer Bass Elite. What am I missing.
Are there better boats around for the that price range, or would you recommend something else.
Require recommendations re boat and recommendations re dealer, don't mind travelling if good deal.
Mostly fish the impoundments in Qld for about three to four months per year.

Hey Mylestom.
I personaly have a 395 Explorer Trophy and love it. Its a great little boat perfect for the type of fishing i partake in. I decided on the Explorer over the 4m hornet because the Explorer is actually longer, wider and cheaper that than hornet. The hornet supposedly has a more stable, but this is rubbish, the stability of both boatsis excellent. 4m Hornets also had a step on the front casting platform which I thought would only cause problems, however I think the new model has had this problem fixed.
Mine is powered by a 30HP Yammy...goes ok, wished I had a 40 though!
Not sure about the Stacer, although I checked them out at the Melbourne Boat Show and the newer models looked alot better then their previous models.
Cheers

Check out the Polycraft 4.1 Trev. A very stable, quiet boat. Have a look on www.polyboatowners.com (http://www.polyboatowners.com)

Look at Poly but weight and finish, and depth for shallow work in sticks and estuaries don't at this time impress.
But considering all recommendations and then review and decide.
Thanks for response.

Thank you, Telwater does make both and much the same in design, believe that the stacer design is the same but from older model might be wrong though.
What hp do you have on the hornet and do you have Trim and Tilt

Well North Beach actually as you well know.
Can't leave a place with its proper name.
Still North Beach Surf Club and North Beach Recreation and Bowling Club though.
A very nice place, but we won't tell too many people about it though.
Minor flooding in the Bellinger today. Can see the river now, up a bit. Sitting here in my lounge room.
Down the club tonight for a Feed of Chinese at Chans and a few tickets in the meat raffle. Life is rugged.

Trev whichever boat you decide on, if you can afford it, get a motor with electric start and power trim/tilt. The PTT will make an enormous difference to how yoy will use your boat. I found that when I fitted the PTT tiller steer motor to my little poly, it turned from a good boat into a great boat. That ability to just trim up or down on the go is brilliant!!!!!
And if you research outboards a bit you'll find that the Yammie has the most user-friendly PTT mechanism on a tiller steer outboard. This is not a brand wank just because I own a Yammie. The positioning of the trim button right under your thumb while your hand is holding the throttle open means you have a one-handed operation. If you like I can post up a pic of what I mean.
Cheers

BBB,
Had thought that myself the Elec start and Trim and Tilt would be ideal.
Do most of my fishing on the Bow Mount, but the ease of use with the arthritis is well worth considering.
Thanks.

Hey Mylestom,
I brought a 2007 4.2 Quintrex Explorer Trophy in april, and i don't think i could have chosen better, they are awesome boats, so stable too.
Mine's got the silly step on the front casting deck, but i don't really find it too much of a problem, i'm pretty sure the 2008 models don't have it. One thing up the front my boat is missing which i'm pretty sure the new models have is the mounting plate on the bow (its a part of the boat) for a bow mount electric motor, i haven't got an electric yet, but it sure would be handy if i had that extra bracket area...
For engine size i have a 30hp, i don't need it at all, but i wouldn't mind a 40, if i have 1-3 people in the boat, its no problem getting it on the plane, 4 people, it starts getting harder and 5 people, i have no chance! As for side rails/steps, i'm pretty sure all the trophy's come with em, if they didn't, i wouldn't even look at the boat...there so handy for hiding new cables, lights etc.
The rest of the boats pretty standard for the trophy's i think, in the casting deck there's a 90 letre catch tank which i put in an aerator in, and in the back there's a bulk head with my battery, fuel tank and life jackets etc. Oh and for a tinny the seats are so comfortable you'll want to fall asleep in em.
Best of all! I did the homework and shopped around i brought mine second hand, it was only 6 months old, no scratches anywhere, carpet was flawless and it only cost me 12grand, pretty good deal i thought...so yeah buy a quintrex or stacer equivalent, you won't regret it...

Is the Stessco Bass Tracker worth a look. Believe there has been some problems with build quality.
Also Stacer Proline Angler.
Just trying to look at them all so can come to a considered opinion.

I have a 2007 4.2 Stacer with a Yammy 40Hp PTT, & elec start. Goes like a cut snake with the 40 and the electric start makes starting a breeze. Battery for start also powers fish finder and GPS. Heaps of room for 2 to fish comfortably without getting in each others way. Only problem I have encountered is the weight in the back of the boat with motor, battery, fuel and me (around 100kgs)

Ordered new boat yesterday.
Quintrex 3.95 Explorer Trophy with a few extras.
Thanks for the input, it great to get other opinions and also a look at what else is available.
Got good deal from that marine dealer in the hinter land of the coast.
Thanks again and see you on the water
Now to decide on motor setup.
Would love a 30hp four stroke with trim and tilt. But a lot of money and service cost. New etec 30hp possible but no costings available yet. Then 2strokes,cheap to buy and service. All in the mix.
The thought processes in costings again. Initial cost, service cost, resale (Not really as usually keep motor for years). Then the ease of usage, type of boating use. All good and thinking about things thoroughly before deciding is all good.
