hi people. im doing up an early 80s 20ft savage & am wondering why you put plastic between your motor & glass pod (in my case) any info would be appriciated. thanks keith

any material placed between the Motor bracket and the Transom is only for protection of the glass (usually) the Motor can damage the gelcoat at times.

Yep I would if your motor goes on and off all the time, like on an inflatable where the ply gets all scratched by screwing the clamps down on every trip and bumping with the motor, cause then the water gets in.

Otherwise if it's a permanent fixture I wouldn't worry too much.

I think that the plastic or ply absorbs a fair bit of the knocks that outboard impart whist being used. If it was metal directly to your glass i think the metal would quickly damage the glass. The plastic / ply that is used spreads the impact out to a wider surface area and removes the distinct edges of impact from the metal.
