Howdy
bit slow on this post, tagged & released this 99cm or approx 10-11kg snapper friday week ago. fishing out deep from Arno Bay in Spencer Gulf SA approx 30kms offshore. bagged this one & another around 8kg aswell. it was rough as guts/dark/cold but worth the drive.
also tagged a few 35-40cm aswell.
hope to meet up with this fish again someday
cheers

these ones taken from about 90ft, most of our winter snapper are 90-110ft.
late spring-summer they come in closer to shore under 500mt from the land in some spots & can be caught in less than 15ft, these times are gold, they really fight well in shallow water.(some still stay out deep aswell)

ps. you can see why we call them nobber lights as i look like a nobber with one on

Mate
hopefully there is plenty more to come, we are gearing up for a big spring-summer run. i'm really going to concentrate on the lures this year, plastics/lucanus jigs, i wanna get the PB on a lure above 25lb, just shy of that mark at the moment.
we have 2 charter boats running from Arno Bay now so it's gunna be a big summer
cheers

Yeah Asty
we still have a statewide snapper closure in SA for November(probly the best snapper fishing month in our area) can't complain i think it's helping our fishery.
come early december they go bezerk.
bag limits in 15min's
cheers

Thanks for that Ash,
Yea its unreal when the ban is finished. We headed to the Illusion. I counted 50 boats there. Me and the old man got our 4 fish all over 90cm in about 10 minutes. So we went about 50k one way from wallaroo to get 4 fish, but it was worth it. Then the next day we went to a spot about 4k's from the boat ramp and the action was even better, had a couple more people on board and were just catching and releasing in about 30ft of water they were going hard.
Ill be definently taking a couple days of work this year, cant miss that action again.

Gotta say that they are a sleeker looking model than the ugly ones we get here in Qld. Great photo and good to see a good solid fish being returned to fight another day.
