Well,
The mid week weather is just too good, so a mate and I headed out to the Spoil Grounds again off Bribie to throw some plastic for a few hours.
Ended up with 2 fish, a 6.92 kg Snapper (a good looking one this time, but I didn't get a pic of it) and a Cobia which went 13.25 kg.
The Cobia took 1 hour 10 minutes and was caught on a 7" Nuclear Chook, 1 oz 7/0 Nitro jig head and the usual 8 kg flurocarbon leader. This is the same gear is caught the Snapper on. That 16 lb Triumph flurocarbon is very good. After that fight, it stayed together and was relatively unmarked. Maybe a bit of good fortune too though.
The little Egrell Bear S4 and Daiwa 2500 R custom was once again the weapon of choice and this is a PB for me on SP's and for the Bear Certate combo. After about 40 minutes into the fight, I was wishing for a S10 and some 40 lb leader because the back and arm was starting to hurt, but afer some patience and plenty of pumping and winding, the Cobia was close enough for a gaff shot. Pheww.
That was it for me, the rod gets the hardware removed and goes back in the rack. A top afternoon.

Mick,
It was about 75 feet. I've just got a new sounder and am not too sure if I'm reading it right.

Hi Tim,

Great Fish mate.
I have been using an S9 lately. It is almost as good as an S10 except it is missing a runner/guide. Don"t tell Eric

Good to see you giving the fish a fair chance at breaking away. Spoils to the victor in the end.

Great chewing too.

Hi Beau,
I ended up with a Furuno LS4100 monochrome sounder. That was its maiden voyage and it may take a while to get the hang of, but on first impressions, it is a good bit of gear.
