View Full Version : line cutters for outboards?

I am wanting to know what is out there to prevent lines being picked up by outboards and trolling motors.
I have had several occurrences of my bow mount motor picking up either my floater, livebait or someone else's line and wrapping it a hundred times around the prop shaft. Sooner or later the seals will be damaged by these lines if I don't notice exactly when it starts to happen.

Has anyone seen a form of knife/blade/cutting attachment for the housings or props to cut lines that threaten entanglement?

I have been tinkering with a piece of stainless tube sharpening several lint catching cutters to somehow clamp to the seal housing on the minn kota.

Jack.

I haven't played with leccy motors but I can tell you at minimum Merc outboards have a dedicated line cutter seal in the bearing carrier forward of the prop.

Although with the advent of braid that has to a degree rendered line cutter seals useless.
