Just interested to see if any one has an older o/b in regular use on their boat.
Mine is a 1983 Johnston 35HP still running very well. I must admit that I do not do a lot of hours yearly.(Don't I wish)

So who has the oldest?

My grandfather in law promised to leave me his old boat in his will.. he bought it new in the 60's and kept it garaged and registered all these years even tho he stopped using it 20 plus years ago.

Well old pop is still going strong at 90 plus so I finally bought his boat from him. I took it out maybe 12 times and then bought my new boat so the boat has sat not used for the last couple of years.

I just gave it to my son in law and he has been out a couple of times... I still have the original owners manual lol.

My little ski boat (playtime) has a 1974 2cly marina big foot 60hp on it. the boat is used atleast once a month. the motor was put together about 18months ago from 2 motors, goes great.has to be 1 of the most reliable motors i have had & still pushes the boat over 80klm with a std prop.

'86 15hp Johnson. has needed a fair bit of work so hopefully should be reliable now :)

I read on one of the VMR docs that a good number of callouts are because quite new motors have died or had problems... But then again, maybe most boaties are using the newer motors and not old ones, but you never know :) I guess they were built to last better back in the old days ;)

1982 6hp Johnno on a 12 foot tinny.
Mechanich said it was virtually scrap material about 3 months ago.. still gets the boat on the plane and thats with 90% compression in one pot and 80% in the other
Smokey bastard thing, but I love it.. dad left the rig to me in his will. I know soon I will be up for a new outboard, but in the meantime it will do :D

I have an leccy on board as well to assist me when the inevitable happens, and a great set of oars.

The uncle has a 500DF steber craft with a 115 merc on the back. triple carb straight 6 tower of power, with thunderbolt ignition!!

This is all 1973, his grandad bought it new back then, had been in storage for many many years but still gets out and goes well.

Mine's a 1977 55hp Johnno and I still go offshore, but not too far out. It starts first time, gets me out & back, so no complaints!

I used to own a 1963 Evinrude 3 HP, it had no neutral or reverse, you just pulled it and it took off (slowly) to reverse you would just spin the tiller around 180 degrees. It used to push an 8 foot fibreglass boat at about 4 knots, it would struggle against a big tide.

68 model Evinrude 65hp v4 on a 62 model Bellboy Ballerina skiboat. I love my old boat, goes like a rocket & turns a lot of heads. It's also older than me.

My parents neighbor has a victa/seagull motor that still runs but no boat to hang it on tho. I doubt he would part with it being a collector of useless stuff, bit like Steptoe and Son.

I lived in St.Lawrence for 4 years and when I left there I left a 4hp seagull in a mates shed which was purchased new in 1952 and still started first pull, or rather first wrap around of the starting cord, it had a neutral but no reverse. and had a half gallon fuel tank on top .

Local paper here The Observer has a 3hp Seagull in working order. for $150 might be a good investment

The intension of the original thread was to try and find the Ausfish member with the oldest outboard on their regular boat. At this stage it appears that MARSHY with his 68 Evenrude Is the leader of the pack!
