Hi all,

just a few quick lines to let you all know that the mackeral have arrived off of Mackay. Fished about 17nm off mackay and the mackeral were jumping out of the water in a feeding frenzy, totally awesome to see:o .
After a couple of double hookups and abosulute mayhem, I was happy with 3 keepers and released another 3 to catch next time.;D

Cheers for now.

All,

I'm still trying to attach photos, I failed to mention that these were all Spanish Makeral around the 15 to 20kg range.
Alot of fun on 8kg gear.

Should have photos posted by the end of today.

Cheers
Jamie

Great fish there. Don't catch them all before they get a chance to migrate south

Just curious Jamie whether they were in a feeding frenzy as in chasing bait fish out of the water or like just showing off?

I once encountered Spanish Macs free jumping out of the water one morning off Island Head Creek and it appeared they were just showing off on some sort of mating ritual in a bay we were sheltering from a stong southerly. We got a few hook ups but eyeballing a Spanish on the helm some twelve feet above sea level is one experience I won't forget. There was virtually a hundred plus in that small bay with up to ten or more out of the water at any one time.
