caught a couple of these tonight - 1 off the Cape & another at Combyoro
methinks a morwong family member ??

Had some tonight - uuuuugggh - bittter weed tatse, just like "Grants" description - despite bleed , ice slurry etc etc - also had a standard Morwong / Blackall that tasted 1000% better than this crap - nice looking fish - but not good eating:'(

Definatly looks part of the morwong family with those blubbery lips.

gold spotted blubber lip? Generally found off the cape. Caught some there a few weeks ago. Smith rock I think.

yeah mate, caught a few of them off the rocks down around tweed & cabarita years ago and cooked up some chunky white fillets ................................................
that was the only time i have taken a mouthfull of fish that i have caught and thrown it straight in the bin!!!!
Absolutely horrible. Caught a 3 kilo one last year and tossed him straight back in, in the moonlight I thought it was a world record bream until i put the torch on it DOH!!!!!

There's a good reason they're also known as mother-in-law fish.......
They taste so bad that you give them to the mother in law

Have caught them before.Always called them spotted morwong and taste terrible compared to other reef fish
