With the other half away for the weekend, and a great weather forecast (apart from the westerly winds) I decided to hit the moreton reefs for a snapper or 2. Very fresh travelling across the bay that early, but we arrived at our chosen area just as the sky started to glow. Saw an excellent show on the way out but continued to a known mark about 2nm away. This showed nothing on the sounder so I turned around and back tracked. Good choice.

Wasn't long before the first snapper hit the deck. Seemed like a fish a drift at one stage, and with the drift so short we were doing well by the time the sun had risen. Bite slowed and we were considering moving, but the saying don't leave fish to find fish bounced around the boat.

Next drift a gentle tap on my line indicated a hit, so I struck hard to set the hooks. A little weight then an almighty burst of power and the guides sung the sound of braid. And with the constaint thought of being rubbed off, I gained 3 wraps of the spool to loose 4 every pump and wind. We gave chase to reduce the amount of line out as we passed over a shallow part of the reef before we finally got colour. One of my ultimate sportfish and a long time dream was almost realty. With some great net work the biggest GT we have ever seen hit the deck. High fives all round and with a little help on both sides I lifted the GT for some momento pic's.;D 8-)

One more snapper, then we headed out to find some new ground. Bagged a pearlie the headed for home over a very calm bay. So where did I get this idea the fish don't bite in a westerly? Busted that myth with a cracker of a day on the water.

8-)Quality fish JOM ;D

We fished off the Cape today without a sounder or GPS !

Still managed 10 keepers ;D

We fished in 100m with the westerly blowing against the current :( tough fishing conditions we had to put the motor in reverse every drift.

Bit blowy around 10 but it soon settled down 8-)

What a cracker day it was. The perfect way to get back into fishing after spending 6 weeks in south China, and the perfect way to send Zilli off.

Blue skies, whales, large pods of dolphins and some great fish. Gotta love Australia.

cheers,
