Hi all,

Long time reader, only posted afew times, have learnt a lot here.

A mate of mine has a Bayliner 2651 Sports Cruiser - 1991. I go out a fair bit with him.

It has a Muir Anchro Winch, Chain, Plough Anchor on the front.

I read somewhere that a Anchor Well should be 500mm depth to ensure that when bringing in the anchor, the chain does not get stuck.

The issue that we have is that the anchor well is not that deep, when bringing in the achor, the chain piles up onto itself, instead of falling to the side, and gets stuck!

It usally means that someone has to go do into the Bow, and push the chain away from the centre.

Is there anything we can get/do differently to stop this issue?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated - if I have not provided enough info, please let me know...

Thanks,

Surething

Hi Surething,

Got exactly the same problem. I find that if I am only anchoring in shallow water (say up to 10mtr) I can avoid the problem by having all of the rope after the amount let out at anchor pushed to the front of the well, but after that the problem is pretty much unavoidable and requires a quick trip to the bow to push the rope forward before contuing to retrieve.

Would also be keen to read any suggestions!

Cheers

Would a cone shape in the well force to spread to the edge a bit. Cut up a traffic cone and give it a go.
