Just looking on the net at the Townsville boat dealers and I see that Townsville Marine has new owners and that they are advertising a 7 year warranty for Suzuki outboards. Is this going to be a new standard? Or is the Haines Group just supporting a new dealer with this as a gimmick for a time?

And before anyone jumps on the bandwagon, yes, it used to be Leo's Marine, and as such is not a 'new' boat dealership, but it has new owners as stated on the website.

Suzuki has offered a 7 year warranty in the states (US), for a while now, maybe we are just coming into line.

Be good if they do offer 7 years. Might even push other manufatures to do the same. Can see it already(etec no service costs for 7 years).

What is covered in the last 3 years? Better than nothing but crikey that's a lot of expensive services throught the warranty period, is it fully transferable? When does the warrany (if it does) decline to such a degree the warranty is borderline uselees/breakeven when related to the cost of service.
Could be a good one, gotta be some conditons/fine print that level it somewhat I would assume.
cheers fnq

No, they had a 7 year warranty when they were first introduced, but it's 3 years now, same as here.

You can buy an extended warranty through your dealer for any new outboard, it's through one of those warranty networks like when you buy a car.

Has anyone actually taken up those extra warranty deals that are not factory and had to make a claim?? The reason I ask is that many of the ones offered on cars are severly limited in what they cover and max payouts per event and so on. Would be happy to hear of anyones experience , prices and what they were like to deal with.
In cars many manufacturers stopped their dealers selling it as the service was terrible and it was possibly going to affect their reputation long term. Most were sold with a high upfront commission to the dealer which is why they are marketed so heavily. Similar to finance. Car mates used to make more on kickbacks than actual commision on sale of vehicle.

I sort of did, I bought a 100 series Landcruiser which was 4 years old from a Toyota dealer. I bought a Toyota extracare 3 year warranty with the deal & initially I thought I'd wasted my money. 3 power steering pumps, one diff & a torque converter were all done under warranty & I didn't have to pay a cent.8-)

Does anyone know anything about one of the new owners, Emmanuel Theodosiou? Peter Knack the other new owner is well known around the Townsville area.

Don't know anything about Emmanuel, however when ever I have been in there he has always been more than helpful. I believe that he has an IT back ground, but been around boats most of his life.

Hello all
I am Emmanuel Theodosiou one of the new owners of Townsville Marine (with Peter Knack).
Thanks to all for their kind comments.
To clarify the 7 year warranty on EFI Suzuki's purchased from Townsville Marine.
In basic terms, the 5 year factory warranty is extended to 7 years if the motor is an EFI Suzuki 4 stroke, purchased from Townsville Marine and serviced by us.
We assure everyone that the cost of servicing the motor with us is exactly the same as if you hadn't purchased it (or any other brand) - there are no hidden charges/costs.
We strongly believe in the Suzuki brand and the quality of the Suzuki product.
To clarify - neither the Haines Group nor Suzuki are associated in any way with the extended warranty. There is no third party insurance policy. Townsville Marine is backing the warranty 100%.
The warranty is exactly the same warranty in terms of what is covered by the original Suzuki factory warranty extended by 2 years. If it's not covered by the factory warranty, it won't be covered by the extended warranty.
The extended warranty is for domestic use and runs out if the motor has done more than 1,000 (one thousand) hours in the 7 years.
Yes, you need to service the motor in accordance with the manufacturer's service schedule and the servicing (for the extended warranty to apply) must be done at Townsville Marine. If you don't service the motor with us, your factory warranty still applies (provided the terms of the factory warranty are complied with).
Given that we are responsible for the extra warranty - we want to be sure that servicing is done properly.
The warranty is not transferable - we have a clear extended warranty policy which contains very reasonable terms. Please feel free to come in and I can explain the terms of the extended warranty and show you how we do things differently.
Our objective is to provide premium service to customers our locale.
Please don't pressure your local dealer for the same warranty (nor The Haines Group as distributors of Suzuki outboards or Suzuki as manufacturers). This is our initiative for our local customers.
A bit of background - yes I do own a software company (BING! Software) and I was born and bred in Townsville where I live with my wife and 3 children. Peter (as most of you know) was a long time employee of Leo's Marine (15 years). Peter and I have purchased the business (Leo's Marine) and renamed it to Townsville Marine in March 2008.
We are making changes, slowly but surely.
If you have any questions, I am more than happy to answer them.

G'day Marine One,
Thanks for replying. You should introduce yourself on www.polyboatowners.com (http://www.polyboatowners.com)
The site is owned by a Townsville bloke, and there are plenty of Townsville poly owners on there. They would be glad to hear from you. It is a friendly forum, and you would be made most welcome.
Cheers
