Mostly pannies on SPs with the odd smoking every now and again. Some are Tuna and some are rub offs by Grassies and Snapper.

Had Phil T and his mate on Sunday. We started in close to avoid the SWer that was blowing and to also load up on livies for later in the day. Phil got smoked by a good one straightening a jighead. You really need stuff like TT Head Hunter Jigs and the like to survive good Snapper bites. We dropped a couple of others here but the bait fishing was going well. We anchored a bit wider to sit out the wind but it didn't really happen on this usually reliable spot. As the wind dropped we worked wider again. The show was tiny on the spot I wanted to fish but I arsed anchoring on it first go. First drop and Phil was into a rat King on a jig.

Peter was onto a an ok AJ on a livie then I hooked a Kingy myself on Phil's outfit while Phil was getting photos and stuff.

Peter then got a succession of Snapper and I think we got one more Kingy on a jig.

Once we swung off this mark we headed wider to another one. First drop on the next spot I hooked a rat King on a jig which we released, Phil dropped one and Peter got a double header of a Snapper and a Pearlie. A short while later I dropped another Kingy on my Sphella and Phil changed to the dark side to use bait and upgrade his PB Snapper. The whole time Peter grafted away bringing in a fish a drop.

Had a charter booked in for Tuesday off DI. Still waiting on those pics. Decided to meet Brooksy and Craigie there on the Sunday night to fish the shelf. Current was unfishable again at night but ok in the morning. We got a few Snapper, Cobia, licorice allsorts and AJs. Like usual busted up on the rods a few times but they wouldn't look at the winch. The only thing on it was Sharks. On it you can pull 5'ers straight in pretty much then see how things go boatside. Fished my most western wide country mark to get out of the current but the current found us again mid morning. We watched the current line move in on us in fact. Off to a mark 7Nm away where I had never fished. It sure looked good but they were too good for us again. Either good Reds or AJS in the wire weed. Busted on the rods but wouldn't look at the winch. We pulled another Almaco Jack (High Fin AJ) here but that was it. We looked at some of the ledge country in closer on the way home and crossed the bar on the last of the run-out with a few pressure waves.
Other stuff.

Next day on charter I did Fisherman's Gutter then went looking for bait. None on the close reefs so I kept working wider. Sounding and sounding and finding nothing so dropped the pick on the first little show I saw. We pulled some Pearlies and Squire off it and a bit of rubbish but then we either swung off them or they went off alltogether. Back to sounding and sounding. I must have looked at 30+ marks for the morning and nearly 50 for the day. We went east to my operational limit then back south before finding another tiny scratch and dropping on it.
3 Trag hit the deck then a fair few Snapper. We stayed on this mark most of the day, re-anchoring when the wind blew us off and drifting it as well. It yielded 2x86cm Snapper (75cm FL) which work out at 7.5kg on a length to weight chart I have, a 67cm Pearlie and all sorts of fish. Eventually we gave up on it and started working back toward the bar. In close we stubbled on the best show of the day. I didn't quite nail the anchoring only hitting the edge of the show but they found us. We could have bagged many times over on this spot as it got dark but we had to leave them biting to hit the road at a reasonable hour with me having a charter back at Mooloolaba the next morning. We crossed the bar with it dead flat and got back to the ramp just after sundown.
Next few mornings I was back into pannies on SPs.
