Hi Scott, i only have a few poor pics as yet, the one you have is the better of them, to get a finish like that was a HEEELLLL of alot of work, ( trust me ) transom still needs different color (" Morpheus" maybe ) than wrapped around the side and blended into the black ............cab will be done, just waiting on the guys is the holdup, but thats ok........................ ive seen them before with shadecloth, might be worth a try, slightly less resistance

Offroad campers use shadecloth as it absorbs the energy of the stone rather than bouncing it back at the rear of the vehicle.

Here's a pic of mine.
Removable with shadecloth insert.
Vinyl tends to have too much wind resistance.

The only thing to be sure of is that there is enough height and flare in the frame to catch all the stones flicked up. I still get the occasional chip up high or towards the back of the boat. This is possibly more from a vehicle travelling in the other direction and throwing it up rather than from the tow vehicle.
I tow with a 100 series Landcruiser and they are very high at the rear end and the mud flaps do little to stop the stones being tossed up.

Also make sure you make a decent access panel to get at the winch post etc. I drive onto my trailer so don't have a lot to do at the winch post in the boat retrieval process other than the final winch connection and safety chains.

thanks WOAT, the pic you have attached, i see the stonegard dont go all the way up, would this be a good height to have mine finished? there would be no need to go all the way up, this right?........................ cheers..............................Daz

That's right, no need to go all the way up as the frame lays slightly forward at the front and flares out at the sides. rocks don't get to the boat above the stoneguard.

Personally I have no experience with stone deflecters but have been thinking about doing something for my new boat when it arrives, what I was thinking is instead of having the shadecloth permantly attached to the trailer on a frame have it is such a way that it is detachable (not on a frame) and clips from the bow rails of the boat to trailer drawbar and A frame - not sure how it would work but I'll think more about it, the benefit is that it doesnt get in the way of winch post access etc - anyway, just an idea
cheers

Where do you get these from? - like others on this thread I too love my boat to bits, and would love to get a (detachable) stone guard. Can't say I have ever seen them in the boat shops (I have a dunbier trailer).

I have seen some pics of people using shade cloth, but I have a Stabi Craft and am wondering what that shade cloth would do to the aluminium pontoons on a decent trip.

I have been tempted just to wrap shade cloth around the bottom of the "A" frame apex on the trailer to stop stones from bouncing up?

Frog, i dont think i have ever seen any in the shops also, just have to make something up from scratch to suit your boat

Here is a close up of mine. The guard is made fom a thick piece of Rubber. It does the job but I think the wind would be better with shade cloth. Mine sticks out wider to protect a camper. I will be looking at making up a shade cloth one at a later stage. THe rubber does do the job its intended to though.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Chris
