Hi
just wondering if anybody else has had any problems with a four seasons boat. I have a 505 windstorm cuddy cabin that has heaps of cracked ribs and a large crack at the front of the boat. My insurance company has just informed me that the damage is due to faulty manufacturing and has wiped me. I am wondering how to approach the company albo marine as it is out of warranty and if anyone else has experienced a similar problem

Todd

Can you advise which insurance company you are referring to?
Have no info on the boat sorry.

Thanks
Chimo

The insurance company is suncorp however they were very throrough sending a specialist marine engineer. I am not disappointed with the insurance company as we suspected that it was a manufacturers fault and we were not covered for this under our policy so a lesson learned to check out wording of insurance policies

Insurance does not cover this type of damage unless there has been a grounding, trailer accident or collision at sea.
Perhaps you could contact Legal Aid or Qld Fair Trading to see where you stand.

There are a few other posts on this forum about Four Seasons (or Stessco....same thing) manufacturing problems and the alleged refusal of the mfr Albo Marine to support the product...suggest search the forum for Stessco.

Contact marine tune about the matter even if you did not purchase it there steve smith is the guy to ask for they give great service and they sell the product. He could help ypu out of a hard spot.

Man, it must be just so disappointing for you to have all this happen.
Do you have any photo's...?
Is it the welds that have cracked or the alloy itself.?

If it is out of warranty then I am not sure what the manufacturer would say but i would guess.."sorry, cannot help"

I sent you PM. From research it seems to be the 2005 models that had faults if any?? I am still a happy owner but I'm keeping my fingers crossed and my life jacket close at hand!

I've had it happen too, albeit on another brand of boat an out of warranty.

Not happy Jan!!!!

Had it fixed at a cost, and still not happy.

I'm going to glass ASAP.

Cheers

Most pressed boats just aren't made for regular use in anything but flat conditions. I had the ribs on my old Stacer welded up twice before I sold it.

You're bloody lucky, I had my Stacer welded up before I used it!

They don't make them like they use to...

Many years ago (13) I owned a Allycraft with 25 Jono on the back... I flogged the crappa out off it.. Waved jumped it and did all sort of stupid stuff in it and never cracked a weld..... It opened a new world to me... I Loved that boat....

My current stacer has about 140 welded patches in the hull. I've given up on welding them up and now sikaflex them to stop the leaks. I really let myself in for it with this boat (2nd hand) and I wont sell it on, I'll take it in for scrap. Glass has its problems too and so will plastic, but part of choosing a boat is choosing which set of problems you want to encounter in your ownership as no material is without its flaws. Unfortunately Some of us get caught in the crossfire and consumer laws dont always cover the areas they need to. 2 main problems exist if you are cracking ribs (as I see it). Either 1 the hull is flexing too much OR 2 the welds aren't up to spec. Both of them are manufacturer related faults and you SHOULD have the right of some sort of recompence. I would try the manufacturer and whoever does his repairs.

Mate has a four seasons 525 "Windstorm". Purchased 2nd hand 12 months ago and has been back to the dealer twice for seam welds coming apart. Dealer has been good enough to reweld the seams but you would have to be having second thoughts about the boat.

I have read quite a few threads from people with split boats or cracked ribs etc
in a number of different manufacturers tinnys

it would seem that you all should get together and take them all on together

I would look up some posts by bombie in someone else's thread

stessco quality

local member for Keppel Paul Hoolihan is following one or two cases as we speak so he is up to speed on what to do

he needs anyone with legit problems to get in touch with him and add your name and details to the list email him here

keppel@parliment.qld.gov.au

about time our marine industry took some responsibility for shoddy work

cheers

Todd iam a repairer of boats and keen boaty in CQ have welded similar boat 530 STESSCO that has cracked ribs and transom mount and various other (design flaws) not a good situation to be in,but you need to follow up with the boat supplier and get in contact with the manufacturer and let him Know your problems they are ALBO MARINE, they have fixed other boats out of warranty
Also send a letter with all details to Paul Hollihan local member as he is helping us try to change the legislation as far as the fair trading act goes
Good luck todd
