Did an overnighter out to a reef and surrounding shoals with another boat leaving the coast guard ramp around lunch time Sunday. Red emperor and large mouths were the target and both boats were rewarded after a long nights fishing. Didn't take a lot of photos, always too keen to get to the bottom again.

Got spooled by a pilot whale which had been circling around us all afternoon. Sometimes only meters from the boat. The big goose must have picked up my braid around it somewhere and within 10 seconds all was gone from the spheros. Resulting in me having to use my backup reel, and completing stuffing my rod holder in the gunnel, bent it like it was plastic.

Ahh, i was wondering who the other Ausfish member was at the ramp. Your car's a whit Hilux with a canopy with the cruisecraft trailer?

I was out with Levinge in his new formosa, great boat, no decent fish boated, but still a good night out

Thats me Scott. Both boats did OK. On my boat we pulled in 3 Red Emperor, 4 or 5 large mouths, 2 Purple Cod, Spangled Emperor, couple of trout, Jobfish, Red Throat, Long Nose emperor and a few other species. 24 fish in total which filled the 200lt esky to the top.

Wonderful conditions going out and all night, pretty ordinary coming home this morning though.

Cheers

Good to hear a plan came together for you Robbo.

Didn't realise it was you at the ramp this morning, i must admit i was a little envious when you said you got onto a few emperor.

What sort of fuel mileage do you get out of your 4 stroker?

Fisher4life and Hookin: the motor is a Optimax 150hp. Around 260 - 270km was travelled maybe even more. Hard to be accurate as we drift with the GPS on but it is 110km one way to the spot. I didn't have to refuel the tank which holds 160lt. Normally I get 1.8km per lt.

I have never caught a purple cod before, they look like beautiful fish. God it must have been fun getting into those reds, they fight so hard!

Were all fish caught on bait or did you try some SPs as well?

Do you open the eyelet up yourself to gang those hooks up??

I'm yet to find a hook strong enough to gang and hold a red without straightening out or break...

I use VMC hooks and I open the eyes myself. Never had one let go yet.

have you tried the True turns, never had a problem with them, 711 style in the 7/0 to 8/0.
