Hey guys,
Should be traversing the cape again soon and might aim to go after some freshwater species for something different, particularly togas. Does anyone know of anywhere within a days drive of Weipa we can have a chance of getting on to them? Any advice appreciated!
cheers,

Hi Dan,
I've done a couple of trips with Aurukun Wetland Charters. Our guide Tim took us to a billabong off the side of one of the rivers, where we caught barra and a few togas. I guess if you can find other billabongs with plenty of water then you're in with a chance. Maybe scour Google Earth and or some topo maps to see what you come up with. Either way I imagine you'll have to do the hard yards and walk in to them to see for yourself.
In the early 90s I did a couple of trips up that way myself with a mate too. We were out walking up a creek with another mate who lived in Weipa looking for pigs, when we spotted a toga cruising.
Good luck.
Regards,
Dave.

Try Stone's Crossing. The togas in the Wenlock are bloody enormous. Awesome fun. Head upstream (hope you have a little tinny). We have mostly fished there in April/May
