Ausfishers, I have a complete kit to make your own sinkers at your home for loan, it comes with all you need "apart from gas and lead,"
( uses the normal camping gas bottle )

these are the moulds I have, Ball , Barrel and snapper, combo's,
I've made more than enough for myself to last ??? and thought I'd loan the kit out to those that want to make there own and save a few dollars,

I’ll also give you a page on safety and tips on how to… the deal is , you pick up and return in the order you got it, and I charge ½ dozen beers for one over night borrow, the box of sinkers in the pic used a bit over 6 kilos of lead, and your welcome to borrow all the gear in the photos,

If you have the lead and time off the next day you can make HEAPS ! .

As in anything, you have to use caution and common sense, molten lead is VERY hot and poisonous , no children or pets should be near and should be done in a very ventilated area,

I'm in Miami on the gold coast, Cheers Johnny :D

Hey Dreemon, Where do you get your supply of lead from? I make my own Jig's and have just been using old Snapper lead but am trying to find a much cheaper supply of lead.

I've been keeping an eye out for that broken cast net but alas have not yet been lucky enough to find myself good quantities of lead.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Mark , I've only heard to get lead fr radiator shops, tyre shops and fr battries, I got my setup for a trade for carpentry work, and he had all the lead with it.

Thanks Reelchippy, I thought that since I have that many sinkers i figure instead of let the gear lay dormant ... let others put it to use

the other thing is the wife wants me to spend less on beers,

she said nothing about drinking it

Good on you dreamon, bloody nice gesture. I like the setup you've got for clamping them all together, I might try that myself.
Try any scrap metal shops for lead, I bought some the other day for $1.60/kilo. You usually get the likes of lead sheeting used one rooves and offcuts of this.

I have been told not to use batteries as the lead is often alloyed and contaminated. Waste metal recyclers are the best bet

a guy at comet batteries said it is to hard and takes a lot more heat to melt the lead from them , have a look at a bunnings for roofing lead and get a roll (im not sure how much it costs) i found a roll ages ago and i still got half a roll there ready for jig heads .

cheers nico

If you have to buy new lead you may as well buy the sinkers.:-/

Add on a six pack and you would finish in the red for sure.

Like Nico who "found" a roll, I think you would need to find some to make it worthwhile.
Old houses often have it as ridge capping if you know of a demolition somewhere.

Vindictor gets his lead for $ 1.60 a kilo, + beers $ 12.50 = $ 14.10

snapper sinkers at b c f almost $2.00 for 2, to make 14 snap sinkers will cost almost the same, then, plus time to pick up and drop off kit and time making em,

to make the 14 sinkers takes about 10-15 mins max. it's a matter of putting in some effort and make it worth your while, by makeing as many as you can .

Once you get going their easy to make, Cheers
