Based in Brissy, 4 ton Excavator and Bobcat, MR license.

I'd like you to have at least some experience, say 6 months.

You get to take the rig home at night, as long as you take care of it!

Good money (if you work hard), bonuses weekly, monthly and annually.

I don't muck around trying to scrimp on repairs. If it's broken, it gets fixed, properly!!!

Best Boss there is;D;D;D;D

If you are not in Brissy I will consider helping you relocate.

Cheers,

Tim

What's harsh is that I've had only one reply, from a nice bloke who doesn't have the right tickets.

If there's anyone out there in OZ who is qualified, I'm serious about assisting with relocation to Brisbane. It's that hard to find Operators up here!

Please consider! (Sorry Mitsubishi);D;D;D

Hey TimiBoy, problem is all the infrastructure work around. Gateway duplication, north south bypass tunnel, pipe lines
, rail jobs, Safelink & the list goes on. All these jobs are paying big bucks with plenty of hours & big site allowances. Good luck TimiBoy, Peter.

Yep, I'm same. I try to have a spare guy kicking around if I can. It's bloody scary, and it's so hard to train new people now, as to get all the tickets is near 6 grand and a couple of months, so just picking up someone new is next to impossible.

You can't even get Govt money to train them, as you have to be an RTO (Registered Training Organisation) to qualify, and it costs 25K to become an RTO, let alone the ongoing admin... Govt money for training is a furfy IMO.

I was considering getting tickets through a training orginisation a while back but was told by another guy not to bother because i would not have employable skills,It was going to cost me 6 grand for a 3 machine package,i didnt spend my money because of this,If there is such a shortage why cant guys get a start?
Are these training schools a waste of money.

Sorry Timiboy i only have a backhoe and bobcat ticket. No truck or excavator yet, but will have an excavator ticket by the end of the month. Im a council roads contractor on the island here but if you get stuck i get a rdo a fortnight and have weekends off so i could jump on your bobcat if you were stuck.

But like all machinery bar the backhoe you need a truck licence to get your gear there.

Hence why i love my HO.:-X :P

Craig

Mate,

The training schools are a total rip off, brought about by the abuse of priveledge
of a few ticketing folks, ie. you used to be able to get your tickets for a carton of beer if you knew the right guy. Are they a waste?

No!

I hired a guy last year, totally green, no experience AT ALL. Started him on 20 bucks an hour, now he's on 24, and doing 50 hours most weeks. Another year or so when he's getting good at it he'll be up around 28 - 30 per hour, so 12-15 hundred a week, plus bonuses, and being able to drive the gear home at night.

4 of my 5 guys made around 70 grand last year, plus some bonuses, and the new guy made nearly 50K.

If you are in SE QLD, you have work for 20 years at least, if you are a good guy who wants to work, and gets along with people, and frowns on sickies!

Maybe we should talk!

Cheers,

Tim

Just to refresh this - looking for an operator with excavator, bobcat, MR, for General/Civil in Brisbane.

Good pay, hell of a nice boss (;D;D;D;D) nice equipment, and you can take the gear home at night.

Lots of hours, good bonuses.

Good luck TimiBoy

The hubby has a small earthmoving business too & we find it very very hard to find anyone qualified wtih tickets PLUS truck licence. (Even I have my truck licence to help the hubby out relocating gear:o ) Let alone anyone with a bit of experience.

You are paying a good rate for someone with no experience!! Good Luck.

you can if you show your keen enough....
i put on a young guy 20 on at christmas... lots of time spent training him ,now he's going great guns, he had never operated a machine of any sort...he was just KEEN as mustad.... goes to show that it is how keen YOU are..
p.s. 21tonne cat zero swing. 3 four tonne zero swing rubber traks, RC60 posi track, 12tonne komatsu all have tilt buckets. 1 bobcat an 14tonne loader FOR HIRE distance no drama

Too true. Basically we can't afford to train you and the Government has no interest in providing funds.

I put guys in the gear as offsiders, and if they get paid work, they get paid, otherwise they're gaining experience.

If you are DEAD keen (like want to work really bloody hard) you can pick it up fast enough to make it worthwhile. It's a business with a sh!tload of money tied up in it. If you're not wanting to work big hours, you're better off selling shirts...;)

pm me - we can swap numbers - and I'll have a chat with you about what you need to get started.

My guys get paid salary plus bonuses around that mark. They make up time in the dry so they get paid in the wet. With bonuses easy over 80 if they do the work. AND I give them fish! ;D;D;D

Tim

Here is a news article about the Bridge and Excavator (they call it a Backhoe??). Seems it was on the Low Loader and I assume the truck was travelling at a fair clip when it hit!.

And Snopes confirms it did happen;

Tim i was talking to a bloke today who works for a council contractor, he has a truck licence and an excavator ticket. But doesn't have a bobcat ticket. I cant vouch for his excavator skills as he is filling in for our truck driver who is on holidays. But he treats the truck real well.

Grease before starting and truckwash everyday after he finishes and looks after the truck(doesn't flog the shit out of it.

He seems to be a decent bloke with a good work attitude mate so if you are interested i can get him to give you a call. I think he lives at Browns Plains, and is getting 16 bucks an hour atm, and is jack of getting that sort of money.

Let me know and i will pass your number on.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but dam those booms must be strong on those excavators.

this thread is very interesting. i am a self employed bobcat operator from rockhampton. sounds like there is a huge demand for good operators in south east qld.

Stinky-stabi- being on a $80,000 plus package is a great deal, for that sort of money it wouldnt be worth having your own setup, do good work, keep the customers happy and its a win win for everyone, especially if your got good gear.

what is the going hourly rate for a bobcat/excavator in Brisbane?
in Rocky $80-$90 per hour is the going rate, anymore you would struggle to get work no matter who and how good you are.
and to get paid whilst its wet and unable to work, thats unheard of up here unless your on a terrible wage

They sure are. But don't put that much sideways pressure on them, they fold up like cardboard! Designed for up - down...

On your own gear you don't get paid while it's wet. Forgive me, but the drought has been good to me!!!

But you can make good $ on your own gear. On a bobcat with augers & spreader bar (don't get a broom or backhoe attachment or ditchwitch - all a waste of money IMO) on a 10 cube truck you should be flat out (50 hours+ a week when dry) at 90 + GST, less commission if you subcontract (which I do) usually 12-14%. Commission ain't so bad - no advertising, no Customers on the phone. I like it!

Cheers,

Tim
