Hi I am looking at getting spin rod for live baiting mullet/herring for flathead, jacks, jewfish etc. Will be fishing around the seaway, and coomera river etc.
I am looking at SJR783 GL3 or the SJR783GL2. Is this the right GLOOMIS rod for live baiting? Also what spin reel would suit this rod?
thanks

Hi Ismail,
Why do you need a "Loomis"? I have nothing against Loomis but I think you're approaching the problem the wrong way!
1. Define target species
2. Define technique(s)
3. Define budget
4. Choose from the best combos that fits the above.
Personally I use a 6'' Silstar crystal pro (3-6Kg) + Daiwa Emblem from the yak, and a 9" Shimano estuary from the rock walls. Since I don't target black-bass (mostly trevally and tailor) I don't need an expensive rod to do the job!;D
Just my two-cents...

Ok guys here is my problem.
I need a spinning rod for live baiting. I am after a spinning rod because the Mrs can use it as well as she doesnt like baitcasters at all.
1. Species is bigger flathead, Jewies, and in summer Jacks.
2. Technique is Live baiting using mullet and Herring.
3. Budget is 200-250
4. I have a 2500 Stradic or a 4000 Tierra to use on the rod. (whichever is more suited)
5. Main fishing is in and around the seaway, coomera river (in summer for Jacks), and planning on taking it to cairns later in the year.
