I've been hearing alot of reports about quality gear, in particular rods, coming out of Japan. I have even found adds for brands like Nitro and Megabass in a heap of magazines.

I spose I am wondering if these new Japanese brands on the market really are making quality gear?

Is anyone using Japanese tackle? If so how do you rate it?

Also where can you purchase such tackle?

Look forward to hearing your responses.

japanese tackle is everywhere mate,
a lot of it is good but there is also some bad,
if you stick with the major brands you will be fine,
they are the innovators in fishing thus why the rage with the gear,

The lures are beating our aussie lures and the quality of the rods/reels and lines has to be seen to be believed.

most tackle shops now sell japanese tackle, (rods, reels, lures, line etc)

but if you want to see a better range
Have a look online at

http://plat.co.jp/
http://www.bass.jp

they sell heaps overseas, by the time you pay for shipping its still cheaper than here

good luck, hope that helps,

I have bought a few diawa reel and lures from some of the japanese tackle. They are definately excellent quality, and substantially cheaper.

Reels don't usually come with an additional spool from japan though.

Tackle from japan is high in quality. they have great lures too. just if you do buy reels from japan check if they can be used in salt. they make alot of reels to suit fresh for bass. but at the end of the day your after a good deal. allround japanese tackle id give it 8/10
