My boat is currently on the market and have had the questioned asked if the boat trailer has a Safety Certificate ?

I have looked through the vessel tranfer papers from QLD Transport and can't see any requirement for one. However one of a few boat yards to contact me about my sale has suggested I need one to sell the boat ?

This is the first I have heard of this and was wondering if anyone else selling a boat privately has had to supply one of these ? :-/

same as any other trailer...

just happens to have a boat sitting on it, but the trailer with the wheels needs a safety certificate just like a box trailer

cheers

I think you do need a safety certifcate if the aggregate trailer mass is over 750kg and that change to requirements came into being in 1999 or thereabouts.

I hope they aren't too difficult or expensive to obtain.

It'd be just like getting a RWC for your car, doesn't cost much...maybe $100 tops, its been a while since I go a RWC for a car, the last one I got was about 50-60 buck, but that was about 5 years ago.

Any mechanic should be able to do one up for you, contact QLD Transport and they should be able to direct you further.

Mick,

Have conflicting reports :-/ anything under 750 kg capacity doesn't need one but one with brakes does ?

Is this something you would get through a mechainic or a specialist for trailers ?

Sorry, forgot to add that you won't find those requirements on the transfer papers for a boat. You will also need a vehicle transfer form.

A Google search "safety certificate trailers queensland' should provide answers very quickly.

Paper work - you gotta love it.

tigermullet,

I did see that form and that's what got me thinking ::)

I have previously sold a 4.2m tinnie that was under the 750kg limit without brakes so all was good :)

Just got a couple done for my new boat and one I sold. You need a RWC for any braked trailer, which costs around $30 from authorised mechanics.

Cheers,

Mick

When I had to get one for a trailer, I had to ring around and find someone that was authorized to do trailers. There must be different licencing or something as not all mehanics are allowed to do trailers. There are mobile blokes that can do it, but the bloke I rang wanted well over $100 to do it, rather that the $30 if I was to take it to him.
