I have a Flightcraft 5.4mtr sports cuddy whose 1984 model Suzuki 115 HP has given up on me. Not repairable and am looking for second hand replacement. currently looking at a 1996 model 115 Suzuki, 1 fussy owner and looks in as new condition, but have had lots of comments from other dealers re suzuki motors when ringing around. Does anyone have any facts to offer re this motor, I can get from dealer for $4k fitted.

I'm afraid the early Suzukis have a less than enviable reputation (whether true or not does not matter) is it a must to fit another Suzuki? I trust it has something to do with current cables and so on? remember that a 1996 model is 12 years old, even if it is OK, 12 years in a harsh Salt water environment is still 12 years.

Thanks Noelm. I don't necessarily have to replace it with a Suzuki, it's just that this is the best second hand motor I have come by so far at a price I can afford as have only just bought the boat so wasn't necessarily expecting the motor to die. Motor has documented 1 owner history and looks like new which is only reason I even considered it. Have also found a 1993 Mercury 135hp at $5k fitted. what sort of age and make of motor could I reasonably expect to look for with a $4-5k ouitlay ?
My father picked up a 90 Johnno FICT, 2004 model with 400hrs for $4000 earlier this year. Through a dealer in QLD.

There was a very well kept 2004 Tohatsu 90 sold by a Ausfish member here recently. He was last asking $5500 to give you a guide.

Hi Andrew,
I have had a 1993 200hp Suzuki for about 4 years on a 625 cruisecraft. Admittedly it had only 150hrs on it when I bought the rig, however it never missed a beat in that time. Obviously carburretted 2 stokes are noisier and are heavier on fuel than something late model, but for your budget, it's probably a reasonal buy. I have just purchased a newer boat, and on the back of it is a 1999 115hp Suzuki. I didn't buy it because of the Suzy, but it certainly didn't put me off. It also looks like new with a mere 91hrs on it. It is slightly diiferent to my previous 200hp, and I asked a Suzuki dealers mechanic about these engines, and he didn't have anything bad to say, no inherant problems. They were designed and built well. When Noelm implied early models, the eighties weren't there best years. It is also good that it is a 1 owner and you have the history. I would like to know the hours though, and get a compression test. if all that's good, I would be getting it fitted.
Cheers

Thanks for your feedback Lee. Gives me a couple of other questions to take up with them before I make a call, cheers.

Have identified some extra options for my 5.4 flightcraft sports cuddy. Suzuki is 1 owner and $4k fitted, others are both also in good nick and $4.5k fitted. Now need to decide which way to go and interested in your views, (asuming all in same condition)? The 135 merc seems to be fairly popular (seems to be more around) than the other 2).
