Hi Guys,
We've done a couple of Overnighters at the Hards over the last month or so But the next trip is to Off DI mid July aprox would like the safety of another boat if anyone is interested. Don't have any points, but keen to find some. I have a 6.25 Cruise Craft.
Cheers John 8-)

We're easy as long as the wind is down. Like to try to get a legal Red or Two.

Hi Rainbow Runner
Sounds like you have been there before with a name like that, where do you launch from?

Gidday Dazza
We can probably make it in the second week ok for an overnighter if the wind is down

If you are staying at Rainbow best place to launch is Carlo Point boat ramp and if you are traveling from Brisbane best to launch from Tin Can.

I am up there a fair bit (have a house there, need to go up and mow the lawn) , unfortnatly the weather has killed the fishing opportunities this year

I have not been out wide overnight from Double Island as of yet, the weather has stopped me, am planning on at least one night during the comp (, another boat would be a bonus,

I launch at the marina boat ramp at Carlo Point Rainbow Beach

whats it like getting outside?

On a good day no problem, but the bar can change rapidly depending on the wind, weather and tide flow.

Talks to the Tin Can Bay Coast Guard for advice

whats ramp like?
There are two ramps
1. Carlo Point Marina
Good condition, multi land ramp with small landing beach
Some shops with lots of parking

2. Bullock Point (on the way to Inskip Point)

Concrete ramp, closer to inskip pt, fraser etc

Good for smaller boats, limited parking, longer drive out of town

3. Beach launching is faily much out due to erosion at present

does it take long to get up the river?
takes 20-30mins depending on the boat then you have approx 6kms to cross the bar before you even outside

is it dangerous to go outside?

In short. Yes

Wide Bay Bar is considered very dangerous

Talk to Tin Can Bay Coast Guard about the bar

Also worth doing a web search

In recenct years a number of boats have been flipped on the bar and a pro drowned in a bar crossing incident.

i was talking about out front of double island and go out where the barge goes over to frasier.
do they class that as the wide bay bar.
all the info is much appreciated and well laid out.

cheers

Sorry, my computer died

Unfortunatly yes that is the bar starts east of where the barges go from

There are only couple of ways from Rainbow Beach to get to fish off Double Island etc.

1. Is beach launch and 2. is go through the bar

See photo of the bar

Weather permitting I hope to be up there for an overnighter 25/7 - 26/7. I hope to head right up to the Gardiner Banks and fish our way back down the shelf the next morning. Have 2 boats going at the moment but if anybody wants to tag along send me a pm.
