hi,
if i have 4lb fireline,what size leader should i use just for fishing in the river?

6lb and 8lb for your bream fishing and up to 12lb for bigger stuff, like snapper, thready's and cod. your length about 1.5m to 2m.

mate i use 6 to 8lb flourocarbon for bream and esturary medium fish ,12 to 20lb where i know there are big flatties and snapper around for bass and other freshwater medium fish i use 10,12 and 14 lb flourocarbon.depending on structure i am fishing and how dirty the water is.

It depends on your target species ..... conditions & what lure you are using
6 & 8lb FC is standard for SPs ..... 10lb when using lures ( specially expensive ones::) ) ......
However .... you could find in clear water situations 4lb may be required
Flathead on the other hand could see you needing 14lb

With 4lb mainline i wouldn't imagine you'd be targeting anything other than bream in the river.

6lb leader is plenty for bream but if you are trying for squire or anything bigger i'd be using 10lb minimum mainline and leader.

Theres some big fish in the river and i've been smoked on 20lb many times.
