Here's a clip from about a week ago out from Cairns. We found shedloads of GT's and even managed a glass-out for the trip home. Gear was 80lb braid on heavy duty eggbeaters. Best fun around.

Yeah....No probs Steve I will happily watch it again.;) :D

You using 80lb these days...??

How did you find the Shimano GT special.....I recently got one and didnt get to christen it up north.Saw some Monsters up to a good 30kg but just couldnt get a strike on poppers or sticks.....Very clear water where I was with no run so I put it down to these factors causing it.

lucky man having GT's on your doorstep....8-)

Thanks pete, yeah it can be pretty good up here.

Yeah I use 80lb on the 10000. I've got 60lb on the 8000 but I don't use it as much these days. One day I'll hook a beast and don't want to be undergunned.

I'm still using my Calstar (love it), but did catch a few on my mate's GT Special during this trip and it actually felt really good. If I was to get another GT rod, I'd probably get one of those.

That was a great view. You looked like you both were pretty puffed from hauling those fish out then lifting them to spear them back.

I think those sort of days would be memorable

Awesome fishing. Definately a memorable day out, the glass out on the return wouldve been the icing on the cake and a cold beer the cherry on top.

I lived in Cairns for about a year, 10 or so years ago and wasnt into my fishing then, I hate seeing what I missed out on now.

Scuttlebutt,

Awesome fishing and awesome footage. Huge fan of GT's was wondering about your lures, i fish "dumbell" poppers a bit for em but interested in the surface stickbaits i hear about, which ones are you keen on and which ones hold up to the rigors of these brutes. I've never seen them fished what's the best technique. By the way do you have any other footage of GT's floating around, i'd love to see some surface strikes on these lures, you know, something to watch when the SE are 20-30Kts !!

Thanks fellas. Chasing GT's is good fun and these days it's pretty much all I do when I get to the reef.

Matt, I use mostly Blackjack and Carpenter stickbaits. Bloody expensive but they work pretty well. Working them is a similar technique to poppers. Just sweep the rod-tip and retrieve.

Here's a couple more vids I've made up

Gday Pete, I get the missus to hunt around for them on the Japanese tackle sites. They're very hard to find, but I get a couple now and then. Not enough to share unfortunately
