I'm looking at a boat powered by this motor (a Joshua 6.5 hardtop).
Can anyone comment on it? I *think* the current owner mentioned he got between 15 and 19 litres an hour @ 4000rpm.
Would this be about right?
Is that performance any good for a 2 stroke motor?
Is this a good motor?

Cheers!

Sounds very ambitious to me Volcano. Even the modern DI and 4 strokes in that size use more than that.

For a old tech 175 2 stroke you are looking at around 30/35 litres an hour at cruise I would reckon. Depends what it is pushing, prop set up etc, but would be surprised if it was much under 30 litres an hour.

Nothing wrong with these motors though, heaps of power for the price.

Cheers

hmm... maybe I got my wires crossed. He might have said 25 to 29 litres then.
Like I said... I wasn't really 100% sure.
Thanks for the reply Dave.

For sale, Haines V19R, reverse chine model, 175hp Yamaha.....................This is a fantastic offshore boat set up for Game or sport fishing, very economical to run using only 1.3 litres per nautical mile cruising at 22 knots and a top end speed of 46 knots.......Hi Volcano,

did a bit a of a search and found the classified above on another site. 1.3litres per nautical mile at 22 knots = 28.6 litres an hour.

Cheers

I have one of these on a Southwind 655 (21" fiberglass). I cruise around 3500rpm at 38/40 km/hr (just because I like the speed but top speed is more like 55-60km) and generally find I use no more than about 15 litres doing this. Very good motor, not too noisy or smoky (upon start-up) and lots of grunt.:D
