with the various accidents that have been happening of late on the water,,,, and the various threads that have covered most of them,,,, it makes you wonder what could or should have been done to make them avoidable,,,,
prime example,, (without mentioning names),,, i had the pleasure of a quick fish with a bloke that i believe to be one of the keenest and probably one of the most knowledgable in his field,,,,, i was mad enough to leave him in charge of the boat,,,
whilst taking care of the rods on 2 occassions,,, we run aground,,,, nothing serious,, but enough to show that a bit of local knowledge does go a long way,,,
i know of a couple of threads that were done that particular members had a dig at one another of similar issues,,,,,whilst we are all confident boaties,,,fisherpeople,, accidents do and will probably still occur by assuming that what we're doing is safe and foolproof
a couple of pics below are self explanatory,,,,1st pic shows a hightide scenario,,, channel marker,,, and a couple of smaller markers behind,,,
2nd pic shows low tide,, and the smaller markers actually being posts in the stone wall,,,,,
you would'nt care how wrong you are by the amount of traffic that take a short cut thru these markers,,,,, the number is staggering,,, especially going by the ""bang"" when hull/motor leg hits the bedrock
running aground??? i know i've had it happen to me,,, and it will happen again,,, you don't get much of a chance to avoid it,,, and without upsetting to many "captains" out there,, you probably fall into the same picture,,,
i 'spose it just goes to show,,, it doesn't matter how much experience you have,,, assuming things are ok just doesn't have much weight behind it
