Anyone know what would be the difference in performance between a plain center console and one with a bimini or even a wheel house do they put much drag on a boat overall

thanks

I guess it must, but unless you are going at warp speed, I doubt that it will make too much difference, probably make a difference out on the highway behind the car though.

I'm not sure Scot, but I would think that the more resistance you put up the higher the drag is going to be. That would also depend on angles and deflection and the like to I guess.

I think the main thing you will notice is at rest the wind catches them a hell of a lot more than a bare boat. While travelling on the water it is hardly noticeable any drag.

Scott,

Just finished fitting a centre console and T-Top to my 445 Dory. First trip out i noticed a 7km/h reduction in top speed, however i had extra fuel, another person and the weight of the console etc. All up very little difference. Previous top speed 52km/hr down to 45km/hr with extras, i reckon that's pretty good.
First highway trip though, i noticed the Pajero used heaps more fuel towing the rig, interesting.

My previous boat was a 6.4m glass cuddy cabin. On smooth water it did 42kts with all the clears off. With the clears on about 37 to 38 kts.
Haven't taken the clears off on the KC but just shows how much drag will effect performance at the higher speeds.
Scotty.
