what about google earth?
can be tricky with datum points tho. never really know if it is where it is. i got some marks off a website once.....punched them in and found a great bit of structure.......20km inland:P
turned out to be a typo on the website::)

Cheers Roo.

Roo's right, you can use google earth,

Select the yellow pin icon, for a new placemark, when the dialogue box comes up you can enter the gps coordinates.

Definitely Google Earth - but putting in the co-ordinates can be tricky I found....

Got to type them in a certain way otherwise goes all over the place.....its not just S followed by the co-ordinates you need the little o, and the ' minutes & " seconds signs....

For example - S 29° 29' 698"

Not sure if this will help - you may have it sorted by now....

Please excuse my ignorance, But how do you place a degree 0 like that ?

flybloke - you need to open up Microsoft word and go to insert, symbol - it's the 7th symbol down on the right......you need to insert it into a document and then highlight it, cut & paste into google earth......it took me a while to figure this out.....but worked in the end....

A nifty quick way to insert a °degree symbol is to press and hold down ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad.

I can enter my marks into Google Earth without needing to enter the degree symbol.

What I do is create a placemark by using the Toolbar menu;

Add; placemark.

A new placemark comes up called Untitled Placemark along with a menu box. You can change the name of the placemark and you can also change the coordinates by typing over the ones that come up. Simply then click OK and all done and saved.

If you want to amend an existing Placemark, just right click on the Placemark and select Properties and that will bring up the menu box.

I have tried and tried to log marks with Google Earth but to no avail. Tried your system as well Dave, but it keeps reverting back to the existing co-ordinates, which are not mine.

I did initially have the same issue Dave, but seemed to have fixed it!, not sure how though??

A couple of things I did;

1) downloaded the latest version (4.3.7204.0836, Build Date Apr 24 2008)

2) Reset the datum format to Degrees, Decimal minutes (the default setting was Decimal degrees I think?)

3) Read up the Help section on entering co-ordinates which put me on the menu box option.

Still not sure what did it??, but maybe one of the above changes??

The Fly to function also works for me. Put in GPS coordinates into the search box and it will take you to the spot. Then save the place, name it etc.

Here are a couple of web links on the subject;
