Pull up the specs of each, cubic capacity is king, you may find a 25 that is also a 30hp - that is the one to consider for performance, you may find a 3cyl (dunno) also, they CC for CC will have better performance and be simply a nicer engine on average although slightly more complicated.

I have a 2006 model 25hp Yamaha twin carb 2 stroke bought new. I can't speak highly enough of it. Best small motor I've ever owned - economical, easy to start, great performance. Did I mention economical, easy to start and great performance. Pushes my 4m tinnie along at 50km/h with 1 onboard and fishing gear. Did I mention economical, easy to start and great performance.

Cheers

If your boat is a little underpowered with a 20 hp I think I'd be looking at a 30hp rather than a 25.

M62, unfortunatley it is plated to 25 hp max, when I say underpowered i guess i just need a little more to get out of the hole (fuel, Batteries for electric etc) Cheers Kevin

Have you thought about trying a foil before you get rid of the 20hp, it may solve that hole shot problem.

I have a 25HP tohatsu 2-stroke very very reliable and its easy to maintain so my choice is with Tohatsu mate ;D
Also a foil will help you out alot, the rear end of your boat won't bog down as much when you want to get on the plain.
Cheers Nick 8-)
