Hi,

I got these 2 today off moreton. Just wondering if anyone knows what they are.. pretty sure one is a cod ?

also i was wondering if anyone could help me out with a bit of advise for offshore. worked shallow and a few other spots but no keepers. What techniques do people use out there.. baits and so one ?

The first one is a pink venus tuskfish great eating and the second is a Maori cod mediocre eating

I should have looked in grants bible in the first place.... the cheapy guide in the boat is wrong again..... you guys below are definately right about the goldspot wrasse

I'd call the 1st one a gold spot wrasse and the 2nd is a brown mouri cod. Legal length for the mouri cod is 45cm so glad to hear you didn't keep him. Not sure on the wrasse but the mouri cod is excellent eating.

Agree on the gold spot Wrasse ID. Ern Grant reckons they are alright on the tooth, apparently a reasonably close relative of the pigfish.

Hi There, The first one is a Gold Spot Wrasse (SaddleBack Wrasse) and the second is a Maori Cod. Both are excellent eating when legal size.

not sure on 1st one but second is a maori cod - do they need to be bled? i herd they did but i wasnt sure
