Local boat dealer has this older quinny on the lot

It's not a millenium hull, is 4.75m and has a pretty full bow, my current tinny has more of a savage style hull

My tinny is 4.15m and the ride, whilst tinny harsh really isn't that bad, I put it down to the pretty sharp nose on it. Unfortunately it really isn't built as the ocean going vessel that I treat it!

My old man had a 5m Quintrex in the late 80's, centre console but I have no idea if it was millenium hull or not, I don't recall it having a bad ride - but we fished out of Darwin then, not Coffs Harbour!

Basically, before I take the thing on a test run, can I expect that it will ride at least better than my tinny?

Motor is a 60hp yamaha precision blend - anything that goes wrong commonly on those?

I am looking for a boat that is a fishing boat first and foremost, but has a cuddy that the little fella and wife can at least sit in to get out of the weather and has a reasonably good ride. The main fishing ground is roughly 20km from the harbour and so I don't really want to be burning 40-50L of fuel on a trip hence the appeal of a tinny (my little boat uses less than 20L return on the trip)

Any other suggestions for hulls would be great! I am also keen on the ride quality of fibreglass but want to avoid a runabout - Would consider anything up to 5.5m and 115hp - but then that is going to chew the fuel! I am budgeting 10-15k...

The hull looks a similar shape to my old stacer...
As for the ride....well I just plan for a couple of days off after offshore trips to allow my spine time to readjust and I can walk again.http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/rolleyes.gifhttp://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/grin.gif

Also remember the closer to the front that the helm is the more you get banged around.
I'd be looking elsewhere if it's a nice ride you're after.http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/wink.gif

I would expect a very similar ride to the tinny you have now. I have an older quinnie, same hull shape as that one and it is very rough riding when the chop gets up

You would find the best place to stand is right at the back. If you take it really easy you would get a softer ride, a 35 or 40 hp would keep you down to a softer speed too or you could load it up with plenty of weight to slow it down and get that little bow to work as well as it possibly could.

Guess it depends on your back and your budget.

Good luck with it

Cheaper than the Seascapes, eh Ben!
Personally I like the look of the high, wavebreaker style cuddy on the old gal.
Just drive to the conditions, and keep an eye on the weather, and hopefully avoid the need to use a speed that provides an uncomfortable ride.
Certainly a compromise between the comfort of glass and the practicality and economy of ally, Comes down to how much you can afford both for the initial purchase and the ongoing costs of fuel and maintainance, etc.
I like the look of the Snyper to mate, they are a nicely made craft.
Cheers.

2mm on the snyper.

Nigel, the little tub is a great boat, massive freeboard for a 4m tinny, but that just means I take it places I shouldn't....

I'd love the seascape 532 but that sort of cash just isn't stuffed away under the bed, around the 10-12k marks is doable though. Really looking at something from Seafarer now.

Hi Ben

Maybe try and find an old V-sea. Should get a reasonable one for that kinda coin. And should suit the purpose.;)

You will be miles ahead in terms of ride by looking for a glass boat in that size...I still have memories (30 years ago)of being in my old man's original boat, a Seafarer venus of about that 15 foot size...man he was a bit mad to put it into some of the seas that he did but it was great ...he upgraded to a 20 foot seafarer vedette runabout which was a great fishing boat too and handled the rough real well.
Just make sure you make a realistic assessment of the old seafarers in terms of transoms and floors/stringers etc....can cost a few grand to replace them and given the timber in those structural components back then it will be necessary at some stage to replace them.
That said seafarer always have made great boats and I will be looking around for one when I upgrade from alloy to glass in the 5.5 metre range..http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/smiley.gif
