Mate at work seriously looking at a 2001 520 C Haines Signature with a 1999? possibly 2000 Merc 115 on the back.:) .

Asking price of $23800 which seems OK but the gearbox has a lovely dose of water included and as yet unsure of the cause.

The hull is in perfect nick with a cheap sounder, hand held GPS, all safety gear and not a bad trailer to boot - albeit the rig just needs a bit of TLC.

Mate is a bit concerned as am I on the possible cost to fix the box and any other issues that may be associated with the donk.

I'd appreciate Ausfishers experience with this hull and or the motor.

P.S. This is his first boat and I'd like to make sure he gets a decent rig without the lemon aftertaste.

Help please ausfishers

If it were me and I am in no way an expert, the last thing I would do is buy a boat with a possible issue on the motor.
Or I would make sure that I got the boat a the right price so I could replace the motor and still consider it a good buy at the end.

Mate, the 520C is a great little boat - I have the slightly smaller 493F with a 90hp Merc - very happy chappy indeed. I would give this one a wide berth on account of the drowned gearbox, tell your mate to keep looking and he will pick up a similar rig in good nick for there or thereabouts dollars.
