hey guys

Looking into purchasing my first boat was looking at geting an older (1987 to 1989) model seafarer Vsea. Just wanted to see what people thoughts and opinions were on these boats they looks like a good solid lil boat. Looking to use it for fishing outside with every chance i get. How do they handle the ruff stuff and what size motor would you reckonmend for one of these.

Cheers Trent

You will love it they are a good little boat but do check for soft transom and floor before purchase as these boats are common for these problems.

Excellent Boats - have a good rep.

70 - 90 HP range I think is commonly used.

Top boat and very roomy for there size,i had one years ago had to replace transom i got it built up to take a 25" motor by doing this it eliminated the slop coming in the back of the boat at anchor as the older hulls have a low outboard well. But for value for money u want find much better maybe a haines v17L is an other option.8-)

Mate,

An absolutely legendary small boat with the 'runs on the board' and offshore credentials. There are literally thousands on the water as they are the biggest selling fibreglass boat model in Australia of all time.

Pick up a copy of Jeff Webster's Second Hand Boat Guide and there is frequent reference to the 4.74 V-Sea throughout.

Best engine for power to weight is a 70 3-Cylinder Evinrude/Johnson or 70 Yamaha 3-Cylinder. A new age DFI 60 - 90 would power these well too.

Also, here is a good test available online from an older Trailerboat Fisherman:

Matey had a VC with a yamma 70 2st, for a fibey under 5mtrs you will not find a better rig imo.
