You are probly making more of it than there realy is

with salt water.
bung your ice in the container, add salt water till the ice slushes around.

with fresh water add your salt to you water & disolve it befor you add your ice.

the saltier the water the better the effect.

remember the salt concentration will vary rather a lot as the ice melts.

. cheers

I have been told that it takes 6 tablespoons of salt to one gallon(4.5L) of freshwater to make saltwater. As for the slurry I add just enough water to cover.

Blackarrow,

Last post is right, make it by sight just till it's sloppy. If you make it too fluid the ice melts quicker (more warm water to melt it) and you have to top up. We make it so you have to push a fish into it to fully immerse it not just drop it in. We always use seawater. Easier to put in ice and add water till right.

2 bags of ice + 2 buckets of water (give or take) (- edit- the smaller buckets you buy with the steel handle)

keeps the fish nice and cold for hours until you get home or back to the ramp to slice them up.
I open the bung and release the saltwater after gutting the fish, then transport home on the remaining ice.

bewdiful!

On hot days when your adding in alot of fish a couple of ice bricks will keep it cold long after the party ice has melted.
