What boat you have would also help...

But for a good economical motor, the E-tec 2.5ltr 200hp would get you further on a litre off fuel then most other motors would.. But I think it would be a hard motor to find second hand.....

North Moreton FAD, 3 passes, 3 hookups on skirts at 4.8 knots (ah, the precision of my Verado). I lost the first one, forgot to crank up the drag when pulling him over the side. Losing leaders and lures is a quick teacher!

2 landed, 8.5 Kilos each, 108 cm. 8 Kg line, 10 Kg 5'7" Shimano Backbone Elite with a 2sp Tyrnos 30. Lots of fun, but not a huge challenge, really...

My friends and staff ate well for a couple of days.

Sadly the FAD is no longer there :-[

I guess nearly all the newer types of Motors will fit your use, be they 2 or 4 stroke, if you look on Boatpoint you can browse a few different tests on various brands and HP engines, in the main it is failry unbiased, but as mentioned, if you have the fuel capacity in the first place, any newish Motor will do you fine, regardless of the operating principal, the hours you are going to do, the overall cost of buying, servicing and running any will be about the same (I reckon anyway) maybe I would lean just a tad towards a 4 stroke (maybe) purely because of my observation a while ago that 4's seem to "cruise" a bit better, but if you operate in reasonably protected waters, then even that would be a non event.

I should add, we are talking newish Motors here??? an old carby anything will kill you with Fuel.

Not true at all, the larger etecs use more fuel than equivalent 4 strokes and DI outboards.

What sort of boat are we talking about here?
If your not worried about noise: 200-225 opti, good power, good cruise economy, readily available on the second hand market.
Wouldn't be my choice for new, although thats not the question.

ifishcq1,

If you have last months QFM, there is an ad for a new 250 opti for 19,900 might be worthwile seeing if you can do a deal on the smaller engine and get yourself a new donk somewhere close to your budget.

Mate if you knew me well enough, you would know I equally like the Suzuki's.. Those Verrardo's are very nice also. The reason a Suzuki is not on my Currant boat is because the weight off the Suk 250 is more then what my is transoms is rated for.

Without knowing what sort off boat the motor is getting fitted too (beside the vague 6m fibre glass description)... I gave IFISH the lightest 200hp motor that is manufactured.... E-tec's are also very economical and pending rig set up they can be more economical then a 4st....

IFish.... IRC, a Brand new the 2.5ltr 200hp E-tec will set you back $21'000, with a 3 year warranty.. A second handy should be right on the money for your budget...

lampuki

With that sort of budget, you could land yourself a new opti....and that way you know what has been done to the engine!

1 zook 4s great on fuel

if they made mini Verado's, i would use that rather the zook, ( sorry zook boys)

only problem is getting the props right:-/;D
the zook will have 25 inch leg and the other two be having 30inch leg, unless i step the pod down on the two outside motas;D, then they will all be 25inch:o

also be taking out my 240L tank and see how many jerry cans will fill that void ;D

OK Gary, just got off a Lebanese boating forum, i will use a Honda, but not a 90hp, will have to scale down to a 60hp, and this will be used as a bow mount, only cause Honda is wissssper quite, just have to mod the leg, say about 39inch;D

now we are all happy8-)

Mister, like from Yeppoon out to the Goodwin, Douglas and Innaminka shoals 90-105km then run up drift back heap of times plus running around looking for new spots or trolling or looking for good surf spots on the outer shoals is anwhere from 220- 300km in a 3am to 3pm day and more on an overnighter..when the new boat is rigged we will do three day swains runs weather allowing

Hi Hornet Rider ,

I am refitting a 30ft longboat with 2 x 1000 ltr tanks... we will be able to do long 2 or 3 night trips to Northwest and the shelf and travel at a fair clip 25+ knots at 4000 with a 200hp.. this speed brings The Swains well into play with The Heralds only 188km from home ...I don't have the bucks for a decent motor and thats the only reason I am selling the smaller 25ft longboat otherwise I would keep both

SL

Hornet Rider

SL, thanks for that, I don't know much about 'long boats'. Is your 30ft glass or ally, & does it have a brand name or is it a custom make? Saw some longboats recently at the Tinny & Tackle show in brissy - this is their web site .. http://www.abetterboat.com.au/ Probably different to what your rebuilding. High forefoot but very little dead rise, about 7 degrees or so, but some interesting strakes arft that apparently keep the boat from broaching in following seas & when riding down a wave.

HR

mine is a fibreglass stinger designed and made in Madang under survey for the mines by Fibretech they sent me photos of the lay up of my boat sharp entry and flat rear narrow hull makes good ride/good economy and speed.. the length gives stability..they don't broach as much as they push a few inches sideways at the front when they reach the bottom of a big wave and head up the back of the wave in front if you don't come in at the right angle

Thanks for the info. Just had a look at the Stinger web site, now I'm an expert on Stingers :P Beautiful boats. Couldn't find any stats on the deadrise but from the pics I'm guessing 7 to 12 degrees, maybe. That would put the wind up anyone used to 18 degrees or more :o The HP is listed at 60 to 115 so I guess your custom boat is being built up-spec to take the 200/225?

It already has the big tanks now when I refit the boat I will reduce the tanks to 250 each it will never need more than about 300 ltr anyway but with those distances you need a fair safety margin incase and any fuel left after the trip goes straight in the old girls car. fuel is not a worry I have a couple of great deckies who don't leave without making the ledger balance..beside nearlyall my fishing is tax deductable or sponsoredhttp://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/images/icons/icon14.gif.
