Overflow carpark was full of cars in the trailer places, so I had to leave the trailer up on the grass as the sea's edge.
A good day's out spoilt with a $50 fine ;( My first ever parking ticket, and its not like you see a lot of traffic wardens in Redlands. I guess that got a few other people too.
Went to peel so the kids could play on the beach for a couple of hours, and the police launch spent a good hour going up and down. Only saw them pull over one tinnie, and the beach wasn't packed with the usual beer-up 8 to a boat, so light pickings for them.

But, wow, what a day huh? We came in from Karragarra Is to Horizon Shores just before lunchtime and the place was like a mill pond! Beautiful day!

Did they at least fine the buggers with cars in the trailer spaces? Regular problem at the Grand and really gets on my wick.

Datamile,
A parking fine would sure take the shine off a good day on the bay, Im hearin ya.
I'd be taking it up with the Redland Shire (opps City) Council. Especially if the boat bays had cars only in them. I would of taken photos too. Yeah I know 2 wrongs don't make a right. (you parking on the grass)
At Reddy Bay with weather like todays, if your not at the ramp by 7.00am expect to park up the street. It was a real pain when the council was upgrading the ferry terminal too, I ended up using cleveland instead, even tho it was further to travel to.
Cheers,
Tony
PS the RCC must have some money now the elections are ova ... inspectors on a sun.

contest it.
as above, state that there were cars in the boat bays and you had no choice.
you just may get away with it

Oh well lesson learnt, I parked behind a few other trailers so thought it would be ok. guess I'll be parking on the road next time.

Sounds like you have a good case.
I got one today too, but that was my fault for getting too pissed last night, leaving the car in a loading zone and being more interested in fishing at dawn this morning than collecting my car!

It was a similar situation at Scarborough except we were not booked for parking on the grass - there were many cars in the boat bays.

Used to live on Karragarra Island and constantly watch the wallopers from the council going around at the ferry terminal at Redland Bay handing out tickets and taking a photo of the same. Even the poor buggers that parked up on the verg near the secure parking gate entrance.
The protest has been on there for so long to get more parking and the council keeps saying no to any expansion of the Wienam Street facility ... hmm, wonder why, you do the maths especially on a long weekend!! :-/

Personally, I wouldn't bother contesting it. I really doubt you would win. No matter whether cars were parking in the boat bays or not, you still parked where you shouldn't have. The way they see it is that you had plenty of other choices to park, even if that meant parking 2 kms up the road in a legal parking spot. If they really wanted to get serious about solving this issue for the boaties, they would be dishing out fines constantly for those cars parked in the dedicated boat parking spaces (assuming they are signed).
I've got tickets before for doing similar things. We just like to hope we can get away with it, but we just get annoyed when we get fined and look to blame something else, whether it is a legit excuse or not, we still did the wrong thing to begin with :) Oh well. That's life huh!

Lucky i got down the boat ramp early on sunday morning and beat the weekend warriors :D, when i got back (and it took about 30 min to get onto the pontoon) i noticed alot of cars with tickets, most for parking in a trailer park without a trailer, there was no reason to fine people with trailers parking on grassed areas aslong as they didnt obstruct something.

Yeah, I'll park on the road next time, but I was just copying others and thought it was ok.
Didn't want to leave the wife and kids holding the boat too long as it was really busy, and someone pushed in front on the four waiting boats to get the down ramp, claiming that no one was moving for 5 mins.. Err 10 secs earlier someone had come up, and he just couldn't be bothered to wait.
Do wish they would allocate sides of the pontoon on busy days because you get the earlier people queued to get their boats out of the water, and at the same time people trying to launch.

Walked past Reddy bay boat ramp about 3pm yesterday - many boats on the grass: yep with a short white strip of paper on the windscreen.....and yes cars without trailers taking up boaties spots (they had tickets also).....

Yeah contesting it will be a waste of time, regardless the council would be more than happy to have blokes and their familys turned away from a healthy lifestyle to be forced home drink to excess and ignore the kids. We wonder why our standards are slipping.
Anywhere at council you can ring before leaving to check on availability and lack of cars in trailer bays?:)
cheers fnq

so why don't they make it a towaway zone (boat bays where cars are parked)?
sure would stop the practice rather than dish out tickets - either way the council makes money right?
its obviously against the bylaws of the council to park in a boat bay so can't think of a reason not to tow the vehicle away. that way they make some money and free the bay up for genuine use!!

Perhaps they could subcontract it to the vmr tractor, and the vmr could get the fines. Then everyone wins.

Question, ware do I park my car if I am meeting someone at the ramp to go fishing with them?

I'm a local, and went for a drive to the point on Sunday. There were cars and trailers everywhere. Thats why I won't why I won't go on the weekends.
Real shame about the fine though. I'm guessing the parking inspector is not a fisho.
Cheers

In the designated car spaces, you know, the short ones that don't fit a car and trailer.
Yes you may have to walk even 50 M... maybe 100.......... but thats where you'll have to park

The only unbiased suggestion I could make is to come up to the North side and launch from Scarborough Harbour - gateway to the best playground around!!... then spend five hours on the Gateway M1 getting home....
