The SIL just turned up with 4 spanner crabs. Missus wants em for tea in 30 minutes :o :o .

Can anyone tell me cooking time for these things please. And do I add anything to the water ?? I have heard a bit of brown sugar is good ??

Cheers

Thanks for nuthin moderators. Hardly anyone looks in this forum. I needed a quick answer and it would have been nice if you could have left it in general chat for longer than 30 seconds !!!!!!!!

gday pete,

smash the top of the shell with a heavy knife and take his shell
off. remove his guts, filters and all other ooglies.

bring a pot of water to the boil with salt added.
drop cleaned crabs in the water and put lid on pot
and bring back to the boil, once the crabs boil time
for 5 mins, then put in ice slurry straight away.

once cooled use strong knife and cut straight down to
split the crab into two, so that you are left with two halves each with a
claw, then place that half of the body in the palm of your
hand and use other hand to crush a little bit, till you
here all the bones crack a little bit. will make it a thousand times
easier to eat.

hope this helps
cheers dale

hi there. caught 40 spanner crabs off kawana yesterday. i split crab in two, take shell off, clean away guts. put saltwater on boil with a couple of table spoons of brown sugar in it, bring water to the boil, drop in crab halves, bring to the boil again and cook for 3 minutes. remove from pot and put in ice slurry. beautiful
