an additional 200 litres??? how much fuel is on the boat already?? for that sort of fuel you'll have to get an additional tank put in, i dont think theres to many jerry cans around that size...........................

I would be looking at extra fuel tanks, under floor either side of orignal tank? Can you make your tank bigger? On my boat I have 200 L tank & could make a 2nd take with 100 L in front of it.But haven't had the need just yet.
Also was told taking extra fuel you will use more fuel driving cause of extra weight, how much more don't know!

You sound like a good candidate for upgrading to a 4 stroke or E-Tec.
either that or just refuel when you reach New Zealand http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/tongue.gif.

or a Optimax:)

For that quantity of "extra" fuel you need a 2nd and perhaps, 3rd spare tank, plumbed, with the appropriate valves to do the job, no way in the world would I be carrying spare fuel in anything else.

mate just to help you out with a answer if you buy a racor water serating filter for your main tank( should have one anyway ) these have a second intake if you plumb it up with a second line ,just make sure you put inline valves to shut of main tank or secondary tank only use one tank at a time so it doesnt suck air when one emteys.
200ltrs is a bit much to have on the deck

Up in the Territory guys will scrounge thinners drums from spray painters, at 60 lt capacity they are manouverable.
Use a jiggler siphon to transfer to your main tank [two man operation if fuel filler is gunnel mount]
Most guys will then float the drums off and shoot [and sink] them.
I was never really happy about the last bit........but they had rifles, who was I to argue?
I should add that this was in reasonably remote areas, arnhem land, coburg penn etc, not Moreton Bay.

similar to what northernblue suggested. on our last big trip we purchased drums from a place at eagle farm, same design as a45 gallon drum but 60l each. and yea get one of the jiggler syphons, they are dead easy and they save a mouthful of unleaded. if you have a hard roof you can easily store them back up there after they have been emptied. but yeah the drums are available and are quite manouverable, just place some old carpet under each drum.

have a great trip

Re : the additional fuel usage

On your next trip grab a extra couple of mates ..... & see what you use ( no doubt there will be extra usage)

What type of 6M boat do you have ?

I saw a CC once that had a stainless steel cruise tank (approx 100L) fitted under a custom made seat that also had the Ice box incorporated( fitted over the tank) ...... Great set up ( & accessible) ..... & keeps the boat balanced
also seen double tanks under each seat box on Shark cats!

another option is a fuel bladder which you could purchase. it all depends on what type of boat you have. heaps of options. but, keep in mind the flamability potential ect. hope you dont smoke !!..

CJ,

400 litres is a fair bit of fuel. What type of boat, motor and destinations do you have in mind?

The guys on here will be able to give fairly good info on your anticipated fuel burns.

thanks for the information guys.

will be heading out of 1770 to lady musgrave for a week.
camping on the island. first time.

6m cc. with a 200l underfloor tank. 2 stroke 140.
towing a tinny across aswell, as we will split up into 2 groups.

hence additional fuel amount is approx. want to explore the nearby coral cays aswell.

hope this will help you guys give a little more information.

and thanks again.

Think there is a barge that frequents LM, contact him and see if they can drop you a 44 off.. just organise and pre pay it

We have a winner but you might need TWO 44s. Towing a tinny your fuel consumption will go through the roof.

Try turtlepak they make fuel bladders i think from currumbin on the gold coast.
They make various size bladders petrol & diesel ,when you empty it they simply roll up & stow away.iv'e never personaly used one though.

Could you put some passengers on barge, there for they can take all gear on & you take boat with nothing in it & some drums of fuel.
I haven't been on barge before but I've talked to people that have & they have taken heaps of stuff including dive compressors.
