Depends how flash you want to go but sacrificing a good esky is the easiest. One like a blue ice kool one that has the plastic membrane and foam core with a sealable lid.How big the esky is,is up to you.Just drill holes to suit your bait tank aerator or water pump.Bait tank kits are available from places like whitworths boating shop.So an esky, bait tank kit, hose and a few other do dads is all you need.

hi mate, i asked the same Q a couple weeks ago & got some good replies remembering what i was told this is what i came up with.

i used a 27.5 ltr drum from a home brew shop , a bulge pump(360 gph), right angle fitting with a in line tap 4 the intake, a bigger fitting 4 the drain, couple of lenghts of hose, water proof fuse holder with 3amp blade fuse, crocadile battery clamps, & a couple of hose clamps.

right angle fitting 4 the intake

this is the inside of the intake with tap 4 controling water flow

inside shot of drain with a bit of old castnet 2 stop prawns going through

works great kept about 15 large mud gut herring & about the same number of mullet alive 4 the time we were out (4hrs). i hope this helps.

Benny - its better to get something with rounded corners. Circular is best as it allows the fish to swim in a constant circle, which in turn increases oxygen flow over the gills and keeps them healthier longer.

Ron - Nice set up, do you just throw the whole bilge in the drink? How much did this set up cost all up? looks very portable. i like.

plaztix, i just put the pump over the side & it works good. did it this way cause didn"t want 2 drill any more holes in the boat + portable, the set up cost about $120 all i ever had was a 10 ltr paint bucket with holes drilled & hung over the side, bait stayed alive 4 awhile but still died. took about 1/2 hour 2 make.
