View Full Version : Sail off the Cape

Went out yesterday (Sat) at 40 knots but the wind picked up a bit so had to drop back to a comfortable 32.

8-)

Beautiful, beautiful seas outside. The sort of seas Liberty just revels in, just loping over the swells. Big grin factor.

Started SE off the Cape in 35m and trolled out with the usual 5 lure pattern.

After a couple of tuna hookups in 50m went out to the 110m line.

Due East of the Cape, around 9:30am, had the long rigger go off on a purple cockroach, and after a fair few seconds thinking "nah its gotta be another tuna" a ginormous sail exploded off the back of the boat!

Man that was one pissed off fish!

It tailwalked another 4 times putting up a huge display but unfortunately, with a novice angler on, the fish threw the lure.

Darn.

That was one big arsed sail.

Went back to Hutchies for a bit of jigging/plastics action. Couldn't get a snap to have a go at a nuc chook, in spite of some great shows. Guess mid-afternoon wasn't the best time ...

::)

Tally for day;

2 Striped Tuna
4 Mack Tuna
2 AJs
1 Pearl Perch
1 Big arsed Sail (dropped)

Brilliant weather. V jealous for those who got out today.

Ok, now I feel a meeting of the planets coming on.

FrankO, *I* am very, very happy to show you in person what 40 knots is like at sea.

And *you* can show us how you land a big-arsed billie.

I have a spot coming up in a few weeks. Troy says he's very happy to crew.

We're thinking of taking you out to the shelf to hunt a big blue on 8kg.

;D
