Went to the close reefs off mooloolaba today to chase some mackerel. Arrived at the destination a little to early to see any surface action, so deployed a few plastics over the reef. Ended up being a pretty good session on the snaps for an hour with 10 boated biggest 72cm. After that the sun had come up and started seeing a few birds and got stuck right into them on unweighted plastics , slugs and some monumental hits on skipping poppers and stickbaits. Not the mackerel were after but bloody good fun. Hooked 10 longys and boated 3. Pretty piss poor conversion rate but was going really hard on them. Snapped and bent hooks. So in all had a great day on the briny and i'm knackered. Ben

Got the snaps on all sorts of placcies. Bass assasins, Snapbacks and strikepro (much like a snapback). Caught the snaps on the dawn glow. Cobia your right there is a lot of meat on a 10 kilo longie there were 3 of us on the boat and only 3 were longtails mate the other 2 are maccys(for bait, burley) so we took a longy each to eat. Ben

That sounded like a ripper of a trip.. from the strike rate and fish count, there wouldnt be much idle time on the boat that morning. My hat goes of to you for the number of LT in one day

Longtails on the stickbaits? What action where you using, walking the dog, a slow retrieve. Kid you have to cast into the school or did they chase after it.

Ta guys,
Pete, anything on poppers is good stuff.

Andrew, a mate borrowed mine( the one with the big mac tuna) and pretty much used it the same as a pencil popper. Yep had to cast it near the school but would chase and smash it a few times till they found the hooks. Ben
