spent easter at my old home town south west rocks
saw a swamped boat on back creek bar yesterday morning:(
i was told there have been several swamping/capsizes in the last few weeks
at both the creek & river bar
yet there were a heap of boats out over easter that travelled over the same bars
just goes to show how easy things can go pearshaped
cheers brian

Never under estimate the back creek. Like all bars it deserves respect. I was at Wooli at easter and that bar is smilar to the back creek in as far as a straight into the fray type bar(no channels to hide in)I reckon a few boats would go over on that one each year

Friend was nearly swamped the other day.He was going over the bar down here at Lakes Entrance and the catch that holds his anchor onto the front of the boat let go dropping the anchor into the water .He didn't want to stop so kept powering ahead till the anchor rope wrapped around his prop.

Both bars at SWR are crap, there's no water on them.

Had a moment on the main bar a couple of years ago, was going out with the Mrs early one morning, 6' greenie that was starting to tumble "apeared" 30' away, told the Mrs to hang on, up we go, took water between the screen and canopy, Mrs hit her head on the canopy ( she was seated! )

Just got over that one and another is just in front of us:P

Thank God the motor kept going, because she landed pretty deep, not fun.

That was the last time the Mrs has, or will again, go over a bar.

It's common there around Xmas time for 2 to 3 boats go over on that bar

Regards

Bill
